Guest guest
1. Oh, Best of Sages, what is jnana? Is it the vritti 'I am Brahman?' or 'Brahman is I' or 'I am all'? 2. Or, is it the vritti 'All this is Brahman' or is jnana different from these four vrittis? 3. Bhagavan Ramana Muni, my Guru, graciously listened to this inquiry of his disciple, and spoke thus: 4. "All these vrittis are doubtless mere concepts of the mind. The wise say that pure abidance in the Self alone is jnana." 5. Hearing these doubt-dispelling words of the Guru, another doubt arose and I questioned him again. 6. Oh Lord of Sages, can Brahman be comprehended by vritti? May you be pleased to dispel this doubt arising in my mind. 7. Hearing this question, the Rishi, friend of those who adore his feet, bathed me with his glance and spoke thus: 8. "If vritti proceeds to comprehend Brahman, which is one's own Self, it takes the form of the Self and loses its separate existence." 9. This brief thrilling conversation took place between us on the 21st of July, 1917. This is the fourth chapter entitled "The Nature of Jnana" in Sri Ramana Gita, the Science of Brahman and the Scripture of Yoga composed by Ramana's disciple Vasishta Ganapati. "If vritti proceeds to comprehend Brahman, which is one's own Self, it takes the form of the Self and loses its separate existence." ********************************** That is the Truth in a nutshell. The Self is the Black Hole. The Self is the Heart. It makes everything its own. The mind with all its vrittis can only approach the Self but cannot survive the meeting as something separate! This brief and thrilling conversation is taking place now. The Eternity is to be found in this brief moment! The thrill is not gone. The thrill never left. The Eternal is its own Thrill! :-).
