vrttayastvaham vrttimASritAh /

vrttayo mano viddhyahammanah //

 

All states of mind are dependent on the activity of

the 'I'. The activities are the mind. Know that the 'I' is the

mind.

eNNanga LEmanam yAvinu n*Anenu

meNNamE mUlamA mun*dIpar^a

yAnA manamena lun*dIpar^a

 

Thoughts constitute the mind. Of all these(thoughts)

the 'I' thought is the root. Hence the 'I' (thought) is what is

called the 'mind'.

ahamayamkuto bhavaticinvatah /

ayipatatyaham nijavicAraNam //

 

Where does this 'I' come from? For one who enquires...

Aha! the 'I' falls away. This is self-enquiry.

NAr^alai SAin*diDu mun*dIpar^a

Gnana vicArami du*ndIpar^a

 

Where does this 'I' rise from? Thus (if the 'I'

is) sought, it will fall (die). This is self-enquiry.

What is the meaning? Is it obeisance to the name of the Guru?
