Guest guest
Dandapaniswami came to see Sri Bhagvan for the first time when Sri Bhagvan was at Skandasram. A couple of days after his arrival,he said to Sri Bhagvan that he had a big family, but had given it all up and surrendered to Sri Bhagvan and requested Sri Bhagvan to give him upadesa. Sri Bhagvan said to him,"What is upadesa? Real upadesa is remaining in the Self." Again he asked Him for upadesa several times.Knowing that he wouldn't leave Him alone,Sri Bhagvan asked him what he had been doing till then.He said,"I have so far done one crore japa of Rama Nama." Sri Bhagvan said, "That's enough. What else is needed? It is enough if you continue with that japa without break." Dandapaniswami asked Him how to do the japa.Sri Bhagvan said there were three kinds of japa.Uccha japa,Upamsa japa and Manasika japa.Uccha japa is that which you do by moving your lips.Upamsa japa is japa that is done without movement of lips. The best is manasika japa which is mental japa.Dandapaniswami was delighted at this. After staying for sometime in the Ashram,he returned to Madras.Wearing a loin cloth,he went to his son-in-law,Subramania iyer.Iyer was a tamil pundit in madras Christian college. Dandapaniswami told him that he had become a sanyasi after taking upadesa from Sri Bhagvan. He gave him a copy of Sri Bhagvan's Aksharamanamalaa.Subramania iyer, who later changed his name to Mugavai Kanna Muruganar, came to Sri Bhagvan as a result of the influence of his father-in law, Dandapaniswami. in Sri Bhagvan, sriram
