Guest guest
Dear All, It is interesting, indeed, that all this polemic can take up so much time, energy and space. While this might be something to get involved in, at times, in academic pursuits, it is really of no use here. If you must, at least make an attempt to structure the arguments, rather than give an opinionated inertia. The wonderful arguments and rebuffs of the likes of Bhaskara, Sankara and Ramanuja, in their Bhashyas of the Vedanta Sutras, are wonderful (a delight) to study, but remember, these are only attempts at 'proving' a particular philosophy, or a particular interpretation of a particular philosophy. Other than that, they serve no purpose... Better to keep silent than embark on futile arguments. There is no purpose in this...certainly not on this list. If there is a feeling of viyoga ... then yoga is required. The type of Yoga is down to temperament. One method/attitude might be easy for one person, another for someone else. Sri Ramana has said this. Why should we, on this list assume to know better? In response to the question 'If the advaita is final, why did Madhvacharya teach dvaita?' Sri Bhagavan replies, 'Is your Self dvaita or advaita? All systems agree on Self-surrender. Attain it first, then there will be time to judge whose view is right or otherwise.' I do not see Sri Ramana's words as philosophy (perhaps I am wrong), although apparently some people read them as such. He was certainly clear that the polemical attitude was a complete waste of time. 'Why waste your time in such polemics? Only turn your mind inward and spend time usefully.' (Talk; 332) Please discuss Sri Ramana's teachings, please post your favourite quotes, please inform us of satsangs, please post quotes from Upanishads etc., please ask about things which do not seem clear, there are wonderful devotees of Sri Ramana here who may be able to help clarify things, please post experiences of Sri Bhagavan. Young or old...new to Sri Ramana or long-term devotee..please be welcome..let us sit together...in harmony. Above all else realise Sri Bhagavan's words when He says..., 'Simple Being is the Self.' Ever Yours in Sri Bhagavan, Miles
