Guest guest
Dear Adam, thank you for posting the Forty verses on Reality (Ulladu Narpadu in Tamil). It is one of the most famous works of Bhagavan and contains the whole teaching of him. I had a look in my bookshelf in search which translation it is and I discovered 4 different English translations - only in my bookshelf (Osborne, S.S. Cohen, Major Chadwick and this one of A.R. Natarajan which you use and which is a translation of Ganapati Muni's Sanskrit translation Sat-Darshanam). In 1928 Sri Ramana composed twenty Tamil stanzas containing his teachings. He did not write them in any particular order to make a poem. Then Muruganar suggested that Sri Ramana should write twenty more stanzas to make the conventional forty full. So Bhagavan composed twenty stanzas in addition. The verses were arranged by Muruganar as a poem and so Ulladu Narpadu was complete. Ulladu Narpadu means 'Forty on what is'. Ganapati Muni, Sri Ramanas famous disciple, made the translation into Sanskrit "Sat-Darshanam". "Sat-Darshanam is a compound word. Sat meaning existence, the Real, the Truth and Darshanam meaning its perception; it also means the experience of those abiding in SAT or Truth, the experience in this case being that of Bhagavan Himself. Ramana says the abidance is the Self, the Heart alone is Sat-Darshanam."(Sat-Darshanam, Introduction) There are also forty supplementary verses to this Forty which where not all from Sri Ramana himself but mostly translations of Sanskrit verses. In HIM Gabriele - Achala Aruanachala group ; Ramana Maharshi group ; Ramana satsangh Wednesday, February 06, 2002 1:42 PM [sriArunachala] Sat-Darshanam (21-22) Om Namo Bhagavate Sri Arunachalaramanaya .... SAT-DARSHANAM (21-22) 21. The scripture declare 'see the Self', 'see God' It is not easy to understand these ideas Becouse Self is One it cannot be seen How can one see God? It is only by becoming food for Him. 22. God illumines the mind and shines within it, unseen, How then can one know God through the mind? Turning the mind inward and fixing it in Him alone is to have His vision. -Sri Ramana Maharshi Send FREE Valentine eCards with Greetings! http://greetings. Guest guest
Om Namo Bhagavate Sri Arunachalaramanaya .... Dear Gabriele, Sri Ramana had a way of saying so much with very little words. There are those few works that say it all in a crystal clear manner.Works like Sat-Darshanam(Ulladu Narpadu), Upadesa Saram or Upadesa Undiyar, and 'Who Am I'. These are a few of the gems.
