Dhyanam (invocation)

 

The whole universe is but a tiny

ripple on the infinite ocean of Sat-cit-ananda

Ramana.

I meditate on Him, the sublime indweller of the

Heart-cavity, transcending all thought.

 

He was born with the constant

remembrance of Arunachala and is united with it

by the Flood-tide of its grace.

Rooted in the heart he is uplifting the world

with his majestic and constant penance.

Therefore I salute Ramana

the shining light of this world an beyond.

 

1. Om Mahasena mahomsena jataya namaha

Born of the effulgence of Mahasena [younger son of Siva]

 

2. Om Sri Ramanaya namaha

Sri Ramana

 

3. Om Grave namaha

Destroyer of Ignorance

 

4. Om Akhanda samvidakaraya namaha

Immersed in the fullness of consciousness

 

5. Om Mahaujase namaha

Great light of grace

 

6. Om Karanodbhavaya namaha

Born for a specific purpose

 

7. Om Jagat hitavataraya namaha

Born for the welfare of the world

 

8. Om Sri Bhuminatha sthalotthitaya namaha

Born in the sacred place of Bhuminatha [Tiruchuli]

 

9. Om Parasarakulottamsaya namaha

Crest-jewel of the lineage of Parasara [Parasara Maharshi has composed many

Sanskrit verses in worship of the great light.]

 

10. Om Sundararya tapah phalaya namaha

The fruit of the penance of the noble Sundaram [bhagavan’s father]

 

11. Om Kamaniya sucaritraya namaha

The story of whose life captures the heart

 

12. Om Sahayamba sahayavate namaha

One who was blessed by Sahayamba (referring to the story when Ramana as a

boy poured out his grief by goddess Sahayamba)

 

13. Om Sonacala maholina manasaya namaha

One whose mind was merged in the great light of Arunachala

 

14. Om Swarnahastakaya namaha

Golden-handed

 

15. Om Srimad dvadasanta mahasthale labdha vidyodayaya namaha

One who attained Self-realisation in the holy Madurai

 

16. Om Mahasaktinipatena prabuddhaya namaha

One who became Self-aware, by the grace of the divine power

 

17. Om Paramarthavide namaha

One who has Realised the Truth

 

18. Om Tivraya namaha

Intensely active

 

19. Om Pitrupadanvesine namaha

One who went in search of his father

 

20. Om Indumaulina pitrumate namaha

Son of crescent-crowned God (Siva)

 

21. Om Pituradesatah Sonasailam praptaya namaha

One who reached Arunachala in obedience of his father’s command

 

22. Om Tapomayaya namaha

Full of ‘Tapas’ – abiding in the state beyond mind

 

23. Om Udasinaya namaha

Unconcerned

 

24. Om Maha yogine namaha

Exalted Yogi

 

25. Om Mahotsahaya namaha

Unfailingly enthusiastic

 

26. Om Kusagradhiye namaha

Of strong intellect

 

27. Om Santa sankalpa samrambhaya namaha

Free of disturbance of thoughts

 

28. Om Susandruse namaha

Of pure and auspicious vision

 

29. Om Savitre namaha

The Sun

 

30. Om Sthiraya namaha

The still one
