Description:

The Ashtavakra Gita, Ramana Maharshi, Nisargadatta Maharaj, Jiddu

Krishnamurti and Ramesh Balsekar have said it all. Their writings are all

you need to achieve Self-Realization or Enlightenment. This group is for

the discussion and postings of their writings, extracts and quotes. [Of

course other relevant quotes - specially ‘Neo-Advaita’ - and your own views

are most welcome.]

Advaita: means Non-duality. A (non) + dvaita (dual). All there is is

Consciousness and all phenomenal existence is illusion (maya). The teaching

of Advaita is not unique. It is mirrored in other traditions, too - The

Sufism of Islam, the gnosticism of Christianity, Taoism, Zen, and many

more. However Advaita is more open, more straight forward, less dogmatic

and has more literature on the Net compared to other traditions. The

teachings of all the sages mentioned here are very readily available on the

Internet.

Important questions to be discussed on this list: Who are we? What is the

purpose of life? What is Consciousness/God/Reality? Why are we unhappy?

What are we seeking? How do we find IT? How do we go from a state of

ignorance to Enlightenment? How do we get out of this mental prison into

Liberation? How do we discover our real Self? How do we escape from the

boundaries created by the mind and become whole again? Etc. etc.

This group does not adhere to any system of beliefs or dogma or creed:

Nisargadatta says, “What is religion? A cloud in the sky. I live in the

sky, not in the clouds, which are so many words held together. Remove the

verbiage and what remains? Truth remains.”

Balsekar says, “Religions were originally based on direct or absolute

Truth. In the course of time they degenerated into concepts. And on these

concepts has been erected gradually an enormous, amorphous structure

enchanting enough to attract and mislead millions of people.”
