Guest guest
Dear Alan, I guess the book that contains the fullest presentation of Bhagavan's teachings would be "Guru Vachaka Kovai" by Sri Muruganar, even though Bhagavan wrote only a small fraction of the verses. Sri Ramanasramam sells an English translation under the name "The Garland of Guru's Sayings." Or are you asking about older books written by other people? In that case, take a look at the reading list he gave to Annamalai Swami: .. On another occasion, when I asked Bhagavan .. to select some reading material for me, he gave .. me a short-list of six books: Kaivalya Navanitam, .. Ribhu Gita, Asthavakra Gita, Ellam Ondre, .. Swarupa Saram and Yoga Vasishta. .. .. He laid particular stress on Ellam Ondre, telling .. me, "If you want moksha [liberation] write, read .. and practise the instructions in Ellam Ondre." .. (Living By the Words of Bhagavan, pp. 98-99.) (The full text of Ellam Ondre is on my website at http://www.realization.org/page/namedoc0/eo/eo_0.htm.) But let me ask you something. What do you regard as Bhagavan's para vidya? I would say it's the simple advice to turn the attention inward in search of the Self until the hridayam pulls the mind in and destroys it. I get the feeling that you take a different view, that you regard his para vidya as some kind of metaphysics. Is this the case? If so this might be an interesting disagreement to talk about. Guest guest
(The full text of Ellam Ondre is on my website at http://www.realization.org/page/namedoc0/eo/eo_0.htm.) >>I for one am gratified for the online version, my thanks. But let me ask you something. What do you regard as Bhagavan's para vidya? If so this might be an interesting disagreement to talk about. >>This is purely a personal opinion based on experience, which truly speaking, leads to That which is beyond experiences, but Bhagavan's 'Para' teaching is utter simplicity, as you have said so well above, and led by, but higher than, any instruction. Indeed it is the fruit of instruction that has been trasmuted into the extremely personal and at once impersonal experience in the laboratory of one's own being. It is so utterly pure and simple that it is 'difficult' for the mind, if that makes sense. >>forgive the comment on something that was not directed personally towards me. The concessions I referred to are those given out of compassion talking about seeing one's relations in heaven , worshiping idols , other worlds , etc. etc. The paravidya he gave was as in the Gitas to which i referred , Ashtavakra , Ribbhu etc .In Shankara's Commentary on the Gita he makes this distinction , the paravidya is the absolute nondual truth , the aparavidya referred to good works for rewards in the next life , ritual , and sacrificial practices etc . This is the sense I intended the distinction . The Metaphysics of Advaita are the paravidya .Originally this teaching was reserved for prepared Brahmins the aparavidya was for the people .It is Bhagavan's glory that he has made the higher teaching is now available to all who are receptive -east and west ..We must not abuse it .I trust this explains this point of view , but I stand to be corrected ..Regards Alan .

(The full text of Ellam Ondre is on my website at
Terms of Service.

Everything you'll ever need on one web page from News and Sport to Email and Music Charts http://uk.my.''>http://uk.my.'>http://uk.my. Guest guest
The Metaphysics of Advaita are the paravidya >>Para vidya is beyond concepts such as metaphysics, and gross words which deliniate them. Para is the cradle of words, thoughts, all action. Specific thoughts, words, and actions are the lila of Para. This is common knowledge. ..Originally this teaching was reserved for prepared Brahmins the aparavidya was for the people .It is Bhagavan's glory that he has made the higher teaching is now available to all who are receptive -east and west ..We must not abuse it .I trust this explains this point of view , but I stand to be corrected >>You are obviously a thoughtful and intelligent man my dear friend, this description however of Para is in truth paraapara or bhedabheda...any conceptual teaching has the duality-cum-unity matrix which uses words and concepts. These may indeed lead to Para, but cannot be called Para. As I have stated earlier, Para reveals Truth within the laboratory of the body under the supreme Guidance of the formless Guru, the Adi Guru Shiva, within. This is the fruit of the aformentioned paraapara guidance of the Guru of form which comes to the ripe aspirant by the grace of the primal formless Sadguru Shiva, or whatever other name one chooses to use for God, Brahman, Rama, Krishna, etc. Guru Om Markandeya Gurudas
