His book, "Be As You Are" which highlights many important conversations that Sri Ramana had is quite comprehensive and very useful. Words of Bhagavan flow from his Direct Realization. It would appear, therefore, that Actual Knowledge of the Self certainly would have a bearing on being able to fully grasp and explain Bhagavan's words and the nature of Self-Inquiry and Self-Realization. Love to all Harsha Alton: Is anyone here competent to judge who has and who has not realized the Self? If no one can say, then whether or not one has knowledge of the Self is irrevelant. If someone says "I have Realized the Self" shall we take them at their word and give more credance to their views. TIA Love, Alton

The view as to who is and who is not Self-realized is a judgement in relativism. From the point of view of the jnani there is no ajnana. From the point of view of the ajnani there might be judgements as to who is or who is not. This certainly was the point of the conversation with Alton. Let's all just take to atmavichara rather than make such spurious judgements. Guest guest
Dear Miles, Good suggestion. There is a Zen story about an old man who came to a Zen master and asked, "Can trees and grass become enlighted? There is a school of Buddhist thought that says so, and I have wondered about this my whole life." To which the Zen master replied, "Have you ever thought about how you can be enlightened? Perhaps that is better to think about." If you are convinced of their authenticity through word and deed it is a good indication .Ideally the Sage will invoke the Self in you , through silence - as did Ramana. Many find Arunachala has this effect .Grace sends the Guru you need -trust the Sat Guru in your Heart as to whether he or she is the one for you .I trust this is a clue -or pointer .Regards Alan <HR> <html><body> <tt> > > Alton: Is anyone here competent to judge who has and who has not <BR> > > realized the Self?
