"Tamas, whose color is black, is the veiling power. It makes things

appear other than what they are. Through its alliance with the power

of projection (rajas--power) it is the original cause of man's

constant rebirth. He who is enveloped by this veiling power, wise or

learned though he may be, clever, expert in the subtle meaning of the

scriptures, capable of wonderful achievements, will not be able to

grasp the truth of the Self, even though the Guru and others clearly

explain it in various ways. Being under the sway of that vieling

power, he esteems things which bear the imprint of delusion and

ignorance and achieves them. Even though he is taught, he who is

enveloped by this veiling power still lacks the clear knowledge and

understanding without which it cannot be removed; he always remains

in DOUBT and comes to decisions contrary to the truth. At the same

time, the power of projection makes him restless. (Its flaws are)

Ignorance, indolence, inertia, sleepiness, omission of the discharge

of duties, and stupidity are the characteristics of tamas. One who

has these qualities is like a sleeping stone."

Comment: There is a lot in this paragraph. It is loaded with wisdom.

Wisdom which I have read before in the esoteric psychology books by

the Tibetan and AAB. And the first thing this passage brings to mind

is that this tamas is talking about the qualities of the second ray

of Love-Wisdom, and the other even number rays such as the 4th ray

and the 6th ray. This is no coincidence. The spiritual side of the

second ray, that of love takes one directly to the heart of the

spiritual man and leads him to full Realization of the Self. These

qualities characterize the great majority of mankind. No ray or

person has all the heaviness of this guna. They are mixed and blended

with the other two to ameliorate the heaviness or stupidity in this

guna and in the jiva. Otherwise you would see a great deal of people

with caveman mentality and or mental retardation. That is the low end

of it and the high end would be an artistic or philosophical genius.

COMMENT #2: And the big news, in his own words, once again rebirth is

mentioned, not only mentioned but Ramana states this guna is the

CAUSE OF REBIRTH. I don't think anyone can deny this as proof. Ramana

did not teach that rebirth does not exist.
