Guest guest
On Saturday, the fifth of Ani in the year Sarvadhari, the twelfth day of the waxing moon under the asterism Visakha, the cow Lakshmi attained mukti. On June 17, 1948, Lakshi fell ill. The following morning June 18, it looked as if her end was near. At about 10'o clock in the morning Ramana went to her. He found her breathing hard and she was lying prostrate. Taking her head into his arms, stroking her neck, Ramana fixed his gaze on her eyes. Her breathing became steady immediately. Tears began to trickle from her eyes. Ramana's eyes too overflowed as he looked at her with great love. How could those standing nearby hold back their emotions? He asked her tenderly 'Amma, do you want me to be near you? I must go now as people are waiting for me in the hall. But wherever I may be, I am always with you. Then he "placed his hand on her head as though giving diksha. He put he hand over her heart also and then caressed her, placing his cheek against her face. When he had convinced himself that her heart was pure, free from all vasanas entailing rebirth and centered solely on him, he took leave of her and returned to the hall...Her eyes were calm and peaceful. She was conscious up to the end and left her body at 11:30 quite peacefully." Nagamma gives a detailed narration of the funeral rites. "All was ready by 6 p.m. People had come in large crowds. Some of them even sat on the compound wall. The Sarvadhakari brought the body of Lakshmi in a wooden cart. Bhagavan came and sat on a chair. Lakshmi's body was placed opposite to him. Devotees brought water in pots and poured it over the body of Lakshmi. After that, adhishedam was done with milk, curds ghee, sugar and rose water. Incense was burnt, a silk cloth was laid over the body, the face was smeared with turmeric powder and vermillion and the body was covered with flower garlands. Lakshmi's face beamed with beauty and charm when she was thus decorated. "By about 7 p.m. devotees lowered the body of Lakshmi into the grave and with cries of 'Hara Hara Mahadev'. Bhagavan was visibly affected. After Bhagavan had touched the holy leaved they were thrown on to Lakshmi by the Sarvadhikari. After that, devotees sprinkled turmeric and vermillion powder, camphor, holy ashes, sandal paste, flower and salt and finally earth was thrown to fill the grave." A stone tomb was built over her grave, surmounted by a likeness of her. On here tomb was engraved an epitaph by Ramana which makes it quite clear that she attained liberation. Later Ramana was asked by some devotees whether he had used to term euphemistically. Ramana said that he literally meant that Lakshmi had in fact been liberated. Guest guest
om namo bhagavate sri ramanaya Dear Alton, > For some unknown reason the owners of this list will not allow > attachments The reason is known and has been discussed before. Some members were concerned that attachments carry viruses. If members no longer carry that concern then surely the settings can be changed. In the meantime why not upload any pictures you have to share with the group to the Files section? Ever Yours in Sri Bhagavan, Miles
Guest guest
Dear Miles: Glad to see that you read posts. Sometimes I wonder why my mind that thinks itself so clever cannot figure out even simple alternatives. I uploaded that nice photo taking your suggestion, into the Sri Ramana folder in the photo section. About the virus problem; may I suggest to members that they get the latest Norton system works, to prevent destruction of their computer. I have regularly received virus' throught emails from people I dont know and claimed they did not sent them to me. Norton catches them and quarantees them. Norton also prevents sending virus'. Of course one needs to update virus definition each day, Om Namo Bhagavate Sri Ramanaya, Alton SIT
