Guest guest
"Those were the days of the Kartigai festival. People people everywhere. At the dwelling of the Swami also the devotees should have been thronging. It was really a surprise when there was no one there and Swami was sitting alone. I took courage in the thought that this was an indication of divine will. I approached the Swami with jubilation. As soon as I reached him I held his right foot with my right hand and his left foot with my left hand and prostrated with my whole body. Getting up, I appealed this: "I have studied and understood the essence of the Sastras. I have repeated the great mantras with contemplation; many austerities I have performed. Missing still is the Lord's grace. Were there lapses in my tapas? Have I missed its very nature? Though learned,I am ignorant. I surrender to you, All-knowing One. Accept me as your disciple and bless me." "Thus when I fell at his feet in spiritual agony, desperately pleading for guidance, a soothing stream of his compassionate look flowed into my and encompassed me. He was the foremost among those who had totally conquered his senses. He who comprehended my state and bliss from his fully open compassionate eyes. Opening a new chapter in both our lives, the words of nectar slowly flowed from him. 'When the mind enquires from where the notion 'I' arises and dissolves right there at the origin of its birth, that is tapas. On the enquiry as to the exact origin from where the sound of mantra arises, the mind dissolves at the origin itself and that is tapas.' I was gratified by this teaching...'upadesa' which came directly from a great teacher-guru. I had an experience of floating on an ocean of bliss."
