Guest guest
Dear Group, Last Friday I had the pleasure of listening to Ram Das speak. After his stroke, he is wheel chair bound and while he was speaking there were several times where he had to pause, looking for the words. His talk was still filled with laughter, and his joy at his own spiritual journey. He said that one of the hardest things about the stroke was that he had always felt protected by the grace of his Guru, and the stroke made him question that grace. He spoke of coming to see even the stroke as grace, and then all was OK again (thought very different from the independent life he had enjoyed before). One thing that he talked about that I found particularly of interest was his work with hospice workers in San Francisco. He talks to them and asks them to see that who they are caring for is not these physical bodies, but rather, the soul (that is shared by all, is how he put it). When the talk was over, there were a number of people who lined up to have him sign books. I did not have a book for him to sign, but I did have my copy of "Song of Ribhu." I waited in line, and when it was my turn, talked briefly of Ramana Maharshi and Ribhu and gave him my copy of Ribhu. His face lit up, he said, "Ramana Maharshi. Yum!" and made sure that his attendant put the book somewhere where it would not be lost. I don't spend much time telling stories now. I thought this might be of interest tot his group, so offer it.
