Guest guest
This time he was open to receive the truth from the Maharshi. He had come as a disciple would to the guru, in a mood of humble surrender. He settled down near the asram, built a small cottage for himself and adjusted himself to the unhurried pace of life at the asram. Each day would seemingly be different from the earlier one. But the steady grace flowing from Ramana was effecting an inner metamorphosis. To Brunton 'day after day brought its fresh indication of the greatness of this man'. He could see for himself the daily occurrences in Ramana's presence. His absolute equality and firm wisdom become evident to Brunton. at last his constant judgment of the Maharshi, his comparison of him with others, and his own preconceived ideas ended , thanks to Ramana's overflowing grace. Brunton learnt 'to submit to the enigma of his personality, and to accept him as he found him'. As a result spiritual inwardness started peaking. he began to understand that Ramana's immense silence was even more potent than his replies. "The realization forces itself through my wonderment that all my questions are moves in an endless game, the play of thoughts which possess no limit to their extent; that somewhere within me there is a well of certitude which can provide me with all the waters of truth I require." Then he was ready to receive the Maharshi's grace in full measure. One night in the Maharshi's hall it happened. "His sense of awareness was drawn out from the narrow confines of a separate personality. It had turned into something sublime and all embracing." Later an old devotee tells him, 'You have been in a spiritual trance for nearly two hours. The Maharshi watched you closely all the time. I believe he guided you.'
