Guest guest
Jan Sultan recently posted the following quotation (and more) to the DirectApproach list about Ramesh's thoughts on death: "When you are dead, you will be back in the primordial state of rest which existed before you were born, that stillness before all experience. It is only the false sense of a limited, separate "me" that deprives life of its meaning and gives death an ominous significance which it really does not have. "The ego naturally fears the inevitability of death because it means its own destruction. Yet deep down, man always knows with intuitive conviction that he is really immortal, and it is for this reason that he is always seeking, consciously or unconsciously, his true nature." There is still a fascinating discussion going on there about subtle bodies surviving physical death and the like - but I agree with Alan that I expected the discussions on this list to revolve around Ramana and his teaching. (I also find it difficult to believe that Ramesh said we should devote our energies to getting rich - is there a reference for this?) Dennis Hi Dennis, It's not exactly like he said we "should" set that up as a goal, besides which all is determined already and we have no choice according to him. The apocryphal comment goes like this... WAYNE: Not really! My teacher, Ramesh Balsekar, used to say that if you are given the choice between having a million dollars and enlightenment take the million bucks because at least there's someone there to enjoy it! [Laughter] In enlightenment there is not a "one" to enjoy enlightenment. http://216.239.33.100/search?q=cache:KUFyJU1nIwoC:www.theawakeningwest.com/wayne\ ..html+Ramesh+Balsekar+%2B+million+dollars&hl=en&ie=UTF-8 I've heard this before...this was the only source I could come up with quickly. Guest guest
As for this one, what is more important than one's own Self- realization? No amount of discussion about subtle bodies and whether Ramesh taught one thing or another will bring this about. What is best about this group is its support for the Realization of all. And the focus on the pure and wonderful teaching of nonduality and inquiry provided by Bagavan Ramana Maharshi. Guest guest
Dear Richard, I only can agree. And as the truth is inside us as our very nature - so we have to find it here. Of course sometimes it is very interesting to compare what different teachers say and discuss - but rarely this supports sadhana at the end. Here we have to stick to practice. Out of deepening practice comes a clear understanding then.
