Guest guest
After the publication of Paul Brunton's 'Search in Secret India', serious seekers in the west started coming to Sri Ramanasramam for guidance and clarification on the spiritual path. Though several hundreds of such seekers had come, only some of them have left useful records which throw light either on the personality of Ramana or on his teachings. The clarification sought by a few of them and the replies given by Ramana have been recorded in 'Talks" with Sri Ramana Maharshi'. However, we find that the recording in the 'Talks' is often very brief. Whereas they themselves have given elsewhere a complete account of what happened in their meetings with Ramana. The first western lady devotee to come to Sri Ramanasramam was M. A. Pigot, an English Lady, who had read ' A Search in Secret India' and had come to India to see the Maharshi. She has given a graphic account of their meeting with him in an article "The way of Spirit'. At the first meeting itself she became conscious suddenly, "...the Maharshi's eyes were fixed on me. The seemed literally like burning coals of fire piercing through me. They glittered in the dim light... Not that he criticized even in silence; of that he was incapable but in the light of perfection all imperfection are revealed.' The same evening when she was meditating in the hall everything was "compelling, still and the eyes of the holy one blazed no more. They were serene and introverted. All my troubles seemed to smooth out and difficulties melted away." She settled down for a long period of stay in order to get the full benefit of close association of his physical presence.
