"Discrimination" is usually the Western Vedanti's version of viveka. but if

you look at the word etymologically:

It is vi<vich. to SIFT (like grain). to divide asunder. nivinakti

ch'Atmana:, And I divided asunder the Self.

What is vivikta is like the white rice and the brown rice in their separate

granaries. Dreams and realities?

vivikti is like the process of discernment.

viveka is defined in M-W very extensively: the faculty of distinguishing

and classifying thngs according to their real properties; the power of

separating the invisible Spirit from the visible world (or spirit from

matter, truth from ubtruth, reality from illusion). He goes on, but i shall

stop here.

There is another sense of viveka where it is like knitting; Grandma's

Perfect Mitten can unravel to a curly string of wool.

More perhaps on another day.

A tap to www.theHungerSite.com will give

somebody a cup of rice. ShalauM!

Dear Jiva,

thanks for making the term "viveka" more clear. This gives a very important

aspect.

Dear Viorica , in your reply you write simply' Realisation is Love '.Yes , it

ends in that state

but on the way this would be the Bakti Path only .Clear intelectual

understanding and

discrimination is essential on Ramana Maharshi's way of Jnana [although Bhakti

is included along

with all other yogas }That is why it is called Maha Yoga .The extract from

Chapta XII of that book

you posted is very profound .That book was written by the philosopher K.

Lakshmana Sarma thank you

..Jiva's clarity about viveka is a great contribution to our intellectual

understanding which

eventually filters into the Heart .In the Grace of Ramana , Alan

Of course self-realization is a matter of love, but that love does not have

to be maudlin slush, it can be tough love. We will discuss this further on

another day, but this far I'll dare: Love is the most selfish of human

cogitations; as selfless love is the freeest. Which love am I making now?
