Guest guest
A story from Ramakrishna list A boy was brought up very affectionately by his parents, as he was born after a very long time to them. His dad especially was well respected in the village and everyone loved the boy when he was young. But eventually, the boy got spoilt due to the excessive love he was getting and started taking to bad habits and went to the extent of troubling the neighbourhood. The residents of the village put up with this for sometime, but then decided to tell his father about it. His father felt very sad on listening to this and assured them that he would do something about it very soon. Some days later, the boy noticed that one of the doors in the house was full of nails driven into them. He asked his dad about this, to which the dad told that, "son...everytime i heard a complaint about you form the villagers, i drove a nail into this door". The boy really felt sad and was shocked at the number of nails on the door and decided to mend his ways. After a few days the nails on the door started disappearing and totally went off. To this, the dad said, "now that you have changed your ways and made amends for it, everytime I hear something good about you form the villagers, i removed a nail from the door". But then the boy said, "dad, the nails are gone, but the holes left by them are still visible". To this the dad said, "son, though you have changed, and done amends, the impressions left by your acts, still remain in people's minds, just as the impressions left by the nails on the door". Similarly, everything that we do leaves an impression on other's minds. Even though we make amends, the impressions left by our deeds take a much longer time to disappear. Only time can reduce the intensity of the impressions we leave. sent by Pradeep
