Guest guest
Uma Devi, a polish lady converted to Hinduism, was one of the staunch devotees of Ramana. She has written a book "The teaching of Ramana Maharshi' which has attracted many seekers from Poland to Ramana. She has also translated Bhagavad Gita into Polish. During the war years about five thousand Poles were in a refugee camp in Kolhapur State, now part of Maharashtra. In October 1946, Umadevi brought a party of twenty five Polish refugees, mostly girls, from this refugee camp to Ramanasramam. They entertained Ramana and the asramites with their folk songs and dances. Devaraja Mudaliar took the Polish party around the Arunachala Hill. They were surprised at the number of Hindu Gods. 'How can there be so many Gods they queried?' Though Mudaliar tried to explain to them that it was only one God in various aspects, they could not understand it. When this was reported to Ramana, he suggested that they could peruse the book "All is One" which had been translated into English. For their benefit, he gave on typed copy to Uma Devi and another for the girls. This shows the interest which Bhagavan took in devotees particularly those who had come from far off lands.
