Guest guest
Sri Ramana, the second son of Sundaram Aiyar and Alagammal, was born on 30 December 1879, a most auspicious day, dedicated to Siva as Nataraja, the King of Dance. On it, early at dawn, the image of Nataraja in every Siva temple is bathed ceremonially, decked with sandal-paste, ornaments and flower-garlands, and taken out in procession, so that all may see and receive the blessing. The day marks the victory of Lord Siva over the demon Andhaka, whose name means the 'dark', the 'blind', and whose myth signifies the victory of light over darkness, of goodness over evil. After subduing the demon, the Lord dances the cosmic dance, which is the expression of supreme joy and alone sustains the universe. Through it Nataraja teaches that the universe is not separate from him, and that everything that happens there is a form of his divine sport. Sri Ramana was born at about the time when the Nataraja procession re-entered the temple of Tirucculi in 1879. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ T.M.P.
