Guest guest
for unrealized beings like Bhagavan this was easy (actually to say "it was easy" itself is not correct, probably it should be said "it was natural") not to "react" in any manner to external events like these whether they are appreciative or derogatory; but what about souls like this writer who, despite knowing the habitual and life-long beliefs to be false, haven't known the truth yet? For ex. when this drives, and the road is empty with the view of the mountains clear, the reaction is one of awe; the moment the eyes meet with an old lady or a physically impared crossing the raod an emotion of pity rises inside; and then in a few minutes a beauty walks across, ha ha ha..... the empty space that did not evoke, so far, any emotion suddenly now creates an attachment and the consequent fanciful imaginations; few minutes later when the eyes meet with the son or daughter to be picked up from the school, a more severe emotional attachment results in a reaction of love and pride; and when drivig back home, the mind remembers the colleague who argued and abused earlier in the morning and reacts with anger and fumes and frets and forgets that the car is being driven in the road; see the innumerable reactions one goes thru because of the habitual attachment to the umpteen falsehoods.... ? when is the relief ? love.... Guest guest
Dear Man of 68 , if you know or can borrow a copy of the Ashtavakra Gita {a favourite book of Ramana's - a non-dual scripture- which he studied in a group with close Devotees -[as he did with the Ribhu Gita , Yoga Vashista etc.} you will find a solution .When these reactions naturally arise as they will , as waves on the ocean of Awareness , there is no need to try and get rid of them as this is dualistic .Can the mind defeat the mind this way ?Instead by non-dualistically watching them rise and fall on the ocean of Consciousness ,witness them like waves on that ocean , with equanimity , they rise and fall to be noticed .After all they are natural arisings -and their substratum is also Consciousness [divine].What is wrong with compassion if it arises ?On the contrary to be welcomed .I trust this is clear .Regards ,in the joy of Bhagavan's Teaching , Alan for unrealized beings like Bhagavan this was easy (actually to
say "it was easy" itself is not correct, probably it should be
said "it was natural") not to "react" in any manner to external
events like these whether they are appreciative or derogatory;

but what about souls like this writer who, despite knowing the
habitual and life-long beliefs to be false, haven't known the truth
yet?

For ex. when this drives, and the road is empty with the view of the
mountains clear, the reaction is one of awe; the moment the eyes meet
with an old lady or a physically impared crossing the raod an emotion
of pity rises inside; and then in a few minutes a beauty walks
across, ha ha ha..... the empty space that did not evoke, so far, any
emotion suddenly now creates an attachment and the consequent
fanciful imaginations; few minutes later when the eyes meet with the
son or daughter to be picked up from the school, a more severe
emotional attachment results in a reaction of love and pride; and
when drivig back home, the mind remembers the colleague who argued
and abused earlier in the morning and reacts with anger and fumes and
frets and forgets that the car is being driven in the road; see the
innumerable reactions one goes thru because of the habitual
attachment to the umpteen falsehoods.... ?

when is the relief ?

love....

RamanaMaharshi, Miles Wright
<ramana.bhakta@v...> wrote:
> om namo bhagavate sri ramanaya
>
> Dear Alton,
>
> > Please post something in Sri Ramana's defense as you usually do.
> > Like, does the highest of the high need defenders?
>
> The same (or similar - Talk 250) conversation appears in Talks
along with
> the following:
>
> 'There was again a reference to the same subject when Maharshi was
alone.
> The villifier seems to be getting into hot waters on account of his
> inconsiderate action.
