Guest guest
thanks much for the suggestion; this forum is quite useful in sharing the feelings and observations and getting and reading the responses; love and thanks to the good soul that created and is maintaing this and also to all others who contribute... the reading goes on and on and yes, the hands haven't been laid yet on A.Gita and R.Gita, though Yoga Vashista's partial exposition is being studied and contemplated upon through a book called Quietitude of the Mind (author: Swami Bhoomananda Tirtha) which deals only with Upasama prakarana (the last but one section of Y.V.) see, the challenge is to overcome the "identification"; when a table or a chair is pinched the person does not feel anything nor do they react; but, if their body is pinched they immediately say 'hey don't pinch me'; so, however much the same person may intellectually understand and agree that they are NOT their body the identification is instant and the reaction natural; why? because, besides our thinking (of attachment), we are also "physically" and "emotionally" bound with our body and personality; similarly, if a relationship (friend or a relative) verbally abused us or bad-mouthed us to others, "we" get hurt; we don't think, "it is this personality that is getting hurt and I am not this personality" because we are emotionally tied to that personality now if you look into this a little more deeply, say, someone pinches this body; the voice immediately says : 'hey don't pinch me'; now, who is 'saying' this? ; is it the body/mind/personality combination or is it the 'individual soul' (Jeevathman) ? Bhagavan repeatedly used to counter-question devotees when they ask questions or report lack-of-progress 'who is asking this question?" or 'who is not having progress'?; everytime, these counter-questions were fully-loaded leading the questioner to think hard and contemplate on the meaning. if the spirit is the one that is 'talking' then we have to not only identify ourselves as that 'spirit' that 'imagines' the individuality but ALSO go beyond that to identify ourselves as that 'something' that is over and above the individual spirit; what is that 'something' ? how come that 'something' keeps allowing these "individual spirits" go thru these illusory dramas, each drama seemingly independent of each other but at the same time interacting with others' dramas? hope all the above is not confusing the heck out of the reader, :-) but this reader can't help thinking in these lines.... love to you all......
