Guest guest
Dear Ramana, I have also heard this statement regarding ripe souls. On the other hand we know, that Maharshi always “prescribed” atma vichara as that is the direct way as he used to say. Maharshi stated, that all other sadhanas eventually lead up to vichara. Only in some rare cases he advised people to do japa. with Arunachalananda Christina the questions of a devotee. In one of the replies Sri Bhagavan states that Self-Inquiry is only for 'ripe souls' it appears that nobody questioned Bhagavan as to who was a 'ripe soul' , Except this isolated answer, we do not find anywhere Sri Bhagavan discouraging anybody from practicing self inquiry. Probably, what Sri Bhagavan meant was, that normally beginners on the spiritual path tend to worship God with form and few would be attracted to Advaita approach. Probably Sri Bhagavan was suggesting that one could try japa, pooja etc. before taking up self -inquiry diectly. I think the statement of Sri bhagavan quoted by 'satkarta' should be interpreted only in the context of specific questions and stage of the questioner instead of taking generally that 'self -inquiry' is only meant for ripe souls. when i encouraged my daughter inlaw to read about Sri Bhagavan, she wrote to me that she came across this statement of Sri Bhagavan that Self-inquiry' was only for ripe souls in one of the pages in the site ramanamaharshi.org, I told her that she need not worry about that and she could go ahead and try Self-inquiry, if Sri bhagavan's teachings appeal to her Jai Sri Ramana Ramana Sarma Post message: RamanaMaharshi Subscribe: RamanaMaharshi- Un: RamanaMaharshi- List owner: RamanaMaharshi-owner Shortcut URL to this page: /community/RamanaMaharshi Terms of Service <> . Guest guest
Postscript: I believe that anyone having the good karma to come across Shri Ramana and his teachings and feels compelled to try atma vichara, can be regarded as a ripe soul. Guest guest
Dear Christina , i quite agree .Those who yearn to do Self Enquiry are already matured or prepared by sadhana either in a previous life or this one .Sometimes we have to wait a long time for the fruit to fall from the tree - there is a ripening process sometimes needed .Love , In His Grace Alan > > I believe that anyone having the good karma to come across Shri Ramana and > his teachings and feels compelled to try atma vichara, can be regarded as a > ripe soul. > > Christina > > > > Am 2/12/03 11:45 schrieb "rpodury" unter <rpodury: > > > This has reference to 'satkarta's posting giving Sri Bhagavan's replies to > > the questions of a devotee. > > In one of the replies Sri Bhagavan states that Self-Inquiry is only for > > 'ripe souls' it appears that nobody questioned Bhagavan as to who was a > > 'ripe soul' , Except this isolated answer, we do not find anywhere Sri > > Bhagavan discouraging anybody from practicing self inquiry.
