Guest guest
This is true in my experience. To sink deep into your heart before going to sleep, then awaken at 3:30 or 4:00 and be in silence is very natural. You will actually experience the awakening of the body and the awakening of the rajasic energy of the world. You may sense that the world wakes up in you. Often in the early hours, there is no world and you experience your boundlessness. The cool energy of the heart pervades your mind and being. The screen, on which the world appears is blank. Nothing is seen or heard. You realize that you ARE this silence, prior to the body and world. This is the best time to bring the state of deep, dreamless sleep into the day, and practice staying in the heart for as long as possible, without allowing your energy to run out through the senses. You may also directly experience that you are not the body/mind when you witness the luminescence prior to their appearance. You will come to adore this peace so much, that you will be looking forward to it all day. It's also helpful to eat very lightly in the evening and maintain quiet. The mind will look forward to returning home to the bliss in the heart. Subtle seeing and hearing will awaken. Direct experience is always key. If you are absoloutely sincere, you can put all your questions in your heart and wait in silence until an answer arises. Untold wisdom and help is available there. Eventually you will experience a bliss and joy and peace that nothing in the gross world can touch. - rubyray RamanaMaharshi Monday, February 24, 2003 8:42 PM [RamanaMaharshi] Brahmamuhurtha! Would be interested if any in the group practice this? Maybe share your experiences? Brahmamuhurtha (period between 4 am and 6 am) is ideal time for meditation. Why? There is Sattva in the atmosphere in Brahmamuhurtha. The atmosphere is calm and the world is asleep. The raga-dvesha (like-dislike) currents have not yet started flowing in your mind. You are just returning from deep sleep when you enjoyed bliss without objects; you can then easily convince the mind that real happiness is within. Only Yogis, Jnanis and Sages are awake at this time. You will be greatly benefited by their thought currents. Never miss the Brahmamuhurtha even for a day. Guest guest
Dear Linda, Your post encourages me to make a change in my practice. I have read in a number of places, like in Robert Adams' book, "Silence of the Heart," the recommendation to "catch the i-thought before it arises when we wake up." I have also heard Nome at SAT talk about this, though it is not something that he stresses. Each morning I awake, sharply, full of awareness of the world, etc. For years I have meditated (inquired) each morning. Because I awaken so fully, I have waited until after I bathe, etc. in the morning. I am going to try moving this meditation as close to rising as I can. Usually this is 5 or 5:30. And see if this makes any difference. Someone I knew from the sangha at SAT in Santa Cruz, cee, had the habit of rising about 4AM and meditating (again, inquiry) for a couple of hours at that time. Now she has realized the Self, and offers satsang in Berkeley. I watcher her over the last few years get deeper and deeper, with eyes that kept getting brighter. Thank you for sharing your practice experiences. We are not two, Richard RamanaMaharshi, "Linda Sherman" <lsherm@s...> wrote: > This is true in my experience.
