Dear All,

if we want to go thoroughly to it, it is lots of material, but surely it

is worthy, but will become a slow walk. So this is only the first part about

V. 1 - more will follow tomorrow. Others may also give the versions

they have. Let's see how we will handle and how it goes on.

In Sri Bhagavan

Gabriele

Prefatory Verse by Sri Muruganar (from message 2421)

Know that Upadesa Undiyar is a light of Knowledge(Jnana) which our father Ramana

composed andbestowed upon Muruganar, who entreated, "(Graciously) reveal the

secret of spiritualpractice (sadhana) so that (the people of)theworld may

attain liberation and be saved by giveing up the delusion of action

(karma)".~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Sanskrit version (Upadesa Saram) and transl. by Miles (from message

1555)karturAjnayA prApyatephalam /karmakimparamkarmatajjaDam //The fruit (of

action) is obtained by the order of theCreator. Is action the Supreme? (No!!)

Because action is inert.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~Tamil version
(Upadesa Undiyar) and transl. by Suri (from message 1555)
kanmam payanr^aral kartana dANaiyAr^kanman kadavuLO vun*dIpar^akanman jadamadA
lun*dIpar^aThe fruits that accrue from action are as commanded bythe Creator.
Is action God? (No!) Action is inert.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Transl. by Prof. Swaminathan

Action yields fruit,

For so the Lord ordains it.

How can action be the Lord?

It is insentient.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Transl. by A.R. Natarajan
The results of action flow according to the law of the Creator.
Is Karma, action, God?
It is insentient.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Commentary by A.R. Natarajan (snip)

Ramana begins by taking up this issue because of the context in which the teaching was being

given. Reverence may be made to the introduction where the story of the misguided sages

of Daruka forest has been narrated [see last posting]. These sages had laboured under the

belief that the performance of prescribed sacrifices and rites would, by itself, yield the result

sought. The faith of these sages corresponds to the position taken by the purvamimamsa

school. It is because of this context in which the teaching was given by Siva to the sages,

to instruct them on the right spiritual path, that Ramana deals straightaway with this issue.
