Happiness is not to be sought in solitude or in busy centres. It is in the Self.
Guest guest
---Dear Miles ,this Poem is by William Cowper ,Alexander Selkirk was a sailor shipwrecked on a desert island in the South Seas all alone .He is the model for Defoe's Robinson Crusoe .It is a 6 stanza Poem .The last verse is But the seafowl is gone to her nest, The beast is laid down in his lair ; Even here is a season of rest , And I to my cabin repair . There is mercy in every place, And mercy , encouraging thought ! Gives even affliction a grace And reconciles man to his lot . I wonder who told Bhagavan about this not very well known Poem .Possibly Chadwick ,[an amateur Poet}, Osborne , another amateur Poet ] or Grant Duff a published Poet under the pseudonym Douglas Ainslie ;or maybe they had to learn it at the American Mission School ?Regards in His Grace , Alan > > > 459. Guest guest
Dear Alan, This feeling described by Selkirk of lying down in in the nest at the end of the day ... time to lay the day's concern aside .... surely we all feel this way when we go to bed. An everyday feeling. Alone, safe, no need to think about stuff ... no need to think about stuff. This is different from thinking about nothing -- there's simply no need to think about anything. For the moment everything is taken care of. A common, everyday feeling. Maybe this is useful for understanding Self-enquiry.
