Turn off the radio.

Notice that you exist.

Continuing to go deeper:

You know your mind.

To know your mind, you must be able to perceive it

As an object of perception.

For you to know your mind, you must be something deeper

Than your mind.

Who are you?

(Who am I? is the question to put to yourself.)

Dear Gabriele,

I am glad that you find these mediations good and helpful.

This particular meditation is from an angle of view that I am

focused on for now. This body is insentient. It does not say "I."

The senses change (from moment to moment, from waking state to dream

state), are objective -- in that they are always known, they do not

say "I" either. The mind takes the reality of Being and superimposes

this Reality onto the senses, adds the "I"-thought and creates this

world. This mind is objective -- it is always known. Who knows this

mind?

Perhaps there will be other mediations that will be of use to you at

sometime in your practice.

Dear Richard,

I am contemplating sometimes in a very similar form though not so in

detail as you do, so it is very nice to read this and much enjoyed.

The most interest "form" of mental change is that short moment before

sleep and directly after awakening, when normal "awareness" is

lost/re-gained - so this is proof that our normal recognition of

awareness is not the true awareness. True awareness must be behind. I

feel it but can't catch it yet - :) Can you?

Yes, please download the whole Freeway Zen in the files section when

finished. That's a good idea. Also I hope it will appear in print for

many to read.

Dear Gabriele,

I feel like I have "Caught it" a few times, and have good glimpses at

other times. Nome says that often seekers make a mistake by looking

at "Big experiences" as a sign of progress. He says that often good

progress is marked by such things as more focus on meditation. For

now I just keep practicing, and look to the joy of practice.

Here were places where I feel like I caught it.

One time I was meditating before some meeting (not satsang or a

retreat) at SAT, and it was like I "forgot" to power up my ego.

Another time, while driving (Freeway Zen) to a vendor meeting, when I

was meditating on "Who knows this?"

Another time, while driving back from a client (more Freeway Zen),

comtemplating a Zen Koan, (What is Buddha? 3 pounds of Flax.) (This

experience is where my signature line, "Not two" comes from.)

Another time, while driving, meditating on "What is the source of

this love?" (yet more Freeway Zen)

What I know is these experiences deepen my desire for liberation,

increase my conviction (bhava) that what the sages say is Reality is

Reality, and strengthens my focus on practice.

We are not two,

Richard

Dear Richard,

And at the moment it is felt that "it" is "caught" it is already

gone.

What a deep depression! Even to say that it is "caught" is very wrong.

Mostly when questioning deep inside "Who am II" feel a great

helplessness instead of any answer arising, sometimes even anguish.

So vichara is felt to be a very hard practice.
