Like the diver who dives to recover what has

fallen into deep water, controlling speach and

breath and with a keen mind, one must dive

into himself and find whence the 'I' emerges.

Discover the real source of the ego,

by exploring within, with keen intellect,

by regulating breath, speech and mind

As one would do to recover a thing which

has fallen into a deep well.

Greetings to all:

I just joined the group.

We live in a hectic world which sucks up our attention. We lose composure

and abidance in the Self. Moreover, the ego battles and fools us into

diversions.

Has anyone used any kind of personal method to keep oneself on track while

engaging the world? Any tactics? Any mechanisms? Do you put anything in

place that steers you correctly?

I know that the answer would to ask oneself who is it that undergoes this

problem and jump back on track into atma vichar. I've done that. I found

myself losing interest in everything to the extent that one cannot engage

effectively in this world. I found myself avoiding and rejecting things.

Nevertheless, with worldly responsibilities one cannot afford that.

I'm just curious to know how my fellow seekers approach this?

Dear Ram,

I think I know what you mean with "losing interest in everything". It may come

as a phase. It passes bye.

I have also struggling with this since more than 1 year. There was a time I

though I could not longer attend

to my job. Nevertheless things went on all the time - this is out of our choice.

Indeed "great" things happened especially

during that time. So don't worry. What one can learn in this phase it

detachment. So it is not worse.

What is learned is that things really go on by itself - and that's amazing. God

acts through us all the time.

If you once see it like that it`s amazing and with that the joy comes back. Let

God work through you as He chooses.

Be His instrument. This is a good foundation for atma vichara.

Yours in Sri Ramana

Gabriele

Dear Ram,

If I may add a few words ...

Long before Ramana Maharshi was Sankara, who taught of

the "Requisites for Realization."

These are:

Discrimination

Detachment

The six essentials

Peacefullness

Self Control

Renunciation

Fortitude

Faith

Deep profound meditation

Desire for liberation

>From this point of view then, "losing interest in everything" seems

like detachment, and is a real benefit to one who seeks Self-

realization.

The focus of my own practice has been for the last few years

discrimination. I continue to look within my experiences as a seeming

individual in the world and to see deeply what is constant and what

changes. How can I be that which is changing? I also look to see

what is "objecdtive," what is known. I must be closer to he who knows

that what is known. Who am I?

Welcome to the group. Please continue posting your questions. Also

you might want to look in thie "files" section of this newsgroup.

There are a number of usefrul things posted there for you to read

(including two small books that I have written and posted there).

We are not two,

Richard
