Guest guest
---Dear Annica ,thanks for your interest .we have over 450 members in this Virtual Internet Satsang, through Sri Bhagavan's Grace .Many members are isolated from other Devotees and appreciate a flow of postings which they can read or not as they wish .One is free to only read 1 posting a fortnight and ignore the rest as an individual, there are no obligations, but other members would like more .I suggest you scan the postings and only contemplate the ones that you really resonate with strongly , they are for you .Sorry I cannot reduce my postings to 1 a fortnight , we would not be serving the Group .Besides many postings are answers to a members questions from which a dialogue may flow .Every best wish in the joy of our teaching, regards Alan > I sincerely appreciate what is happenining in the world of Ramana Maharshi, > but I would like not to receive more than one thing to contemplate a > forthnight, if possible. > > That would be wonderful. > > Kind regards > > Annica Mynax > > > > > >Alan Jacobs <alanadamsjacobs > >RamanaMaharshi > >ramanamaharshi > >[RamanaMaharshi] 280 of Garland of Gurus Sayings > >Mon, 9 Jun 2003 18:52:04 +0100 (BST) > > > >The infinite and almighty Self > >Shines as the Master of awareness > >And through prime Silence silences > >The vulgar arguments of the poor > >Bewildered worldly wise . > > > > > > Plus - For a better Internet experience > >http://uk.promotions./yplus/yoffer.html > > _______________ > Hotmail is now available on Australian mobile phones. Guest guest
Dear Annica: I do agree with Alan. For some of us who are so busily engaged in the world, every email with Maharishi's words helps. It helps us with the "constant remembrance" thing. Guest guest
Dear Annica: If you are currently receiving the Ramana Maharshi postings in your email, you could change your membership to no email and then you could read the postings on the web. Once every fortnight you could click messages and then select only one to read according to the title of the message that most interests you. At the SriBhagavan group, once per month, one of Sri Ramana Maharshi's Talks are posted from the book "Talks with Sri Ramana Maharshi". That is a whole complete talk without being cut or abbreviated or taken out of context. So I guess that is one posting every two fortnights. I had to look up the word fortnight to see how long it is, because we don't use that word much in America. Websters Dictionary says it is two weeks. Here is the address of the Sri Bhagavan group: SriBhagavan I can understand your desire for not so many concepts and not so many words Annica. I wished I had not ignored the many, many, many warnings that Sri Bhagavan gave about endless reading, etc. when I was young. I used to like to read on and on wanting to get to the next concept. Now I see the wisdom in just taking one passage of Sri Bhagavans teachings (preferably in context) and contemplating it. To contemplate a single passage for two weeks is far wiser than to read 14 passages for two weeks. To let a single teaching go past the intellect and sink into a permanant insight, to let every aspect of the meanng of a passage of a teaching be revealed, to allow a passage of teaching to be practiced and to infiltrate every aspect of one's life. That is the wisest way. I wasted a few decades reading on and on wanting to get to the next concept. Better than any reading, be it every fortnight or everyday is the practice of Self inquiry. As Sri Bhagavan pointed out the words that one reads are outside the five sheaths, the Self is within the five sheaths. The search cannot be done through reading. As Robert Adams points out: reading spiritual teachings is a little better than watching tv., but only a little better. I would agree with that. If you are determined to be distracted, entertained, diverted then reading Sri Bhagavan's teachings is better than watching tv, etc. However, far better than any reading is the practice of Self inquiry. One can go on reading endlessly. Years and years can pass by reading and reading and reading. If in all that reading one cannot discover that Sri Bhagavan's advice is to practice Self inquiry during all the waking hours, and not to go on reading and reading, then what is the point? The point is the I-thought is tricky. Oh so tricky! LOL So tricky, so clever, so decietful, so cunning. So Annica, as far as your desire to have only one thing to contemplate a fortnight, I say bravo! Good insight! Better to contemplate one thing every fortnight. Better than that is to replace the time spent reading with self inquiry. Giving one's undivided attention to the inquiry. One of these days I am going to put together a list of quotes by Sri Bhagavan on the subject of reading and discussing spiritual topics. More entertaining than watching tv is to watch the I-thoughts preservation strategies. It has millions of them, mostly in the way it uses thought. The I-thought in the spiritual seeker pretends to be interested in ending the I-thought, and it is not interested in its own end at all. If Sri Bhagavan had written a book that on every page said only practice Self-inquiry, stop reading, stop discussing, only practice self-inquiry, and if that book were 1000 pages, and if that was all that was written on each page: Spend all your waking hours practicing Self-inquiry, don't read, don't discuss, don't do this and don't do that, even then the I-thought would find some way of interpreting those words to mean I should read and discuss and practice self-inquiry. I watch "my" I-thought preservation strategies and I watch "others" I- thought preservation strategies and in both cases it is better than watching tv. The I-thought does not wish to end in humans and that includes those humans who are on the Direct Path as taught by Sri Bhagavan. In some very rare cases, the desire for liberation is great enough to overcome the I-thoughts desire to preserve its imaginary self, and its millions of preservation strategies. Extremely rare that it happens, but not so rare that people pretend it has happened, or imagine that it has happened, as Sri Bhagavan warned when he described the false state of liberation that Sri Bhagavan said few go beyond.
