Dear sri vaishNava perunthagaiyeer,

Continuing the topic 'sooryasya soorya', In srimadh Bhagavadh geethaa krishna

says, I am 'ravi' - the sun among the luminous objects [or subjects?].

Since sun is krishNa [or sri vishNu himself] also 'I am one among the twelve

aadhithyaas - meaning the sun - also son of adhithi, adhithi being dhEvaki the

mother of krishNa in that krishNa avathaaram. So also he is 'aadhithya'.

aadhithyaanaam aham vishNu: jyOthishaam ravi: amsumaan|

mareechir maruthaam asmi nakshathraaNam aham sasee ||

meaning: Of the 12 aadhithyaas I am vishNu:,

Of all luminaries, I am the sun,

Of the seven maruths I am mareechi,

Of the constellations I am the moon.

So raamaa is "sooryasya soorya" as stated by mother sumithraa, but krishna is

soorya only (?) as stated above.

There is one sthOthram in the srimadh raamaayaNam praising the sun god -

aadhithya hrudhayam - sargam no.105 in yudhdha kaaNdam of srimadh raamaayaNam.

This is in total praise of sun god.

Sage agasthya comes to the battlefield and teaches this sthOthram in praise of

sun for ensuring victory of raaman over raavaNan.

dhaivathaischa samaagamya dhrashtumabhyaagathO raNam..

upaagamya abraveedhraamam agasthyO bhagavaan rishi.. 6 - 105 - 2

meaning: The all-knowing sage agasthya who had joined the gods to witness the

battle [between raama and raavaNa ] spoke to raamaa thus

aaadhithya hrudhayam punyam sarva satru vinaasanam .

jayaavaham japEnnithyam akshayyam paramam sivam 6- 105 - 4

meaning: This holy hymn dedicated to the sun deity will result in destroying all

enemies and bring you victory and never ending supreme bliss.
