Guest guest
Dear Friends, I have heard from more than one source that some smaartas and some Sri Vaishnavas will be observing Yajur Upakarma on July 13. Observing Upakarma so early in the year is a rare occurrence that the Sri Vaishnava Sadachara Nirnaya mentions only in passing and with the comment that it is disputed as to whether it should be done in mithuna-aashaada at all. My question to any and all: is there a good explanation for why some authorities are recommending such an early date this year? Apastamba, whom Yajur Vedins follow in this matter, is clear that the aparahna of (lunar) Sraavana Paurnami is his chosen date for this observance. Barring a good explanation, I feel more comfortable observing Upakarma next month in August. Please email me directly as I get the chance to visit this group every day. Thanks, adiyen ramanuja dasan, Mani
Guest guest
Dear Sri Mani Varadarajan, The reasons are clearly spelt out in Sri Ranganatha Paduka - May issue. Perhaps you can get in touch with Shyam or Venkat and go through this. We understand (i am told - i have not read it myself) that the other great Mutt has advised that Thalai Avani Avittam has to be performed on July 13th though the Gayatri Japam has to be performed on 12th August only. May i also take thsi opportunity to seek your and Sri Narasimhan Krishnachari's consent in reprinting some (in Paduka)of the most beautiful articles that he has authored on Sri Vishnu Sahasranamam that are in your archives? Warmest regards.
