The Upanishad story, if you have carefully followed what you call my "interesting analysis" (thank you) , is all about the theme of Evolution of Man, as I sought to explain in my posting. The story is not about "3 categories" of beings but about "3 stages of Man's evolution". If we miss this point then we miss the whole message of the Upanishad story as well as its illumining illustrations echoed in the Bhagavatham stories. The perfect man -- the "manushya" -- who combines in himself all the 3 virtues of 'dAna', "dama' and "datta" is the epitome of perfection. He is the pride of Evolution... he is a miracle wrought by God Himself... As long as one or more of the 3 'Da-s' is missing in Man he continues to remain a mere 'student-child' of Prajapati -- forever imperfect and 'uneducated'. He might be well be like 'agni' without 'dama' or like an 'asura' (like Hiranyakasiou) without a trace of 'dayA' -- i.e. both superhumans in all respects and yet far from being Evolved beings.. But a 'manushya' who is both self-controlled like the fire in the 'agni-hOtra' and who is full of compassion and, again, who also gives generous 'datta' like Sudama --- such a 'manushya' is a miracle of God indeed! He is the same sort of miracle that visited Sudama in the Bhagavatam! Trust this clarifies your question which is a very good and thoughtful one indeed. Thank you for your interest in the subject. Regards, dAsan, Sudarshan ______________________ Send free SMS using the Messenger. Go to http://in.mobile./new/pc/
