Guest guest
Srimate Ramanujaya Nama: Srimath Varavara Munaye Nama: Dear most Adiyaars, Adiyen has a simple doubt. What is the prescribed fasting procedure for Sri Vaishnavas during Ekadasi?? The Gaudiya Vaishnavas totally refrain themselves from eating any grains or grain by-products, for they believe on the basis of scriptures that Kali purusha (or is it Sin personified, I am not sure) resides in the grains on the days of Ekadasi, as per Sriman Narayana's instructions- therefore eating grains amounts to committing a very sinful action. What should be the habit of SriVaishnavas?? I know people having "tiffin" items and calling it "PalagAram", but the actual word being "Phal AhAram" which means, "meal of fruit". I would be thankful if the adiyArs can utter a few words of wisdom on this matter. AzhwAr emperumanAr jeeyar thiruvadigaLe Saranam Dasan, Kidambi Soundararajan. Guest guest
Adiyen, Namaskaram! As for as considered about fasting on "Ekaadasi", one should not take or consume anything including fruits or drinking juices or EVEN WATER! For the persons who are very weak, or elder persons can take some fruits and water in Ekaadasi time! Since it is beleived that the Lord Sriman Narayanan himself, undergoing fasting during Ekaadasi days, then we can think about the holyness of the day. Hence it is better not to consume or intake anykind of food during these days, except water if you are working person. If you are weaker or elder then you can take some fruits and water. For attaining the Lord LOTUS feet, we should not consider other's habit or tellings. Since this is KALIYUGA, most of the people wont follow the exact tradition to be followed and they refrain themselves from that, by saying some irrelevant history. If you do with sincere dedication and devotion to Him, then the sure way to attain the heaven! If there's any mistake on my views please forgive me, your comments are also most welcome!
