Madhura kavi AzhwAr -Lateral Entry

 

It is universally known that sri madhurakavi AzhwAr always thought of

nam AzhwAr and had no other thoughts. He considered that he had no

other Lord other than swAmi nam AzhwAr -"dhEvu maRRaRiyEan" -kaNNinuN

siruthAmbu.

 

However, he had vision of the Lord to the extent of describing about

the LOrd. He described the LOrd as "kariya kOlath thiruvurui" black

coloured Lord. How is that who does not even consider the Lord as

Lord but only swAmi nam AzhwAr as his LOrd gets the vision?

 

This is clear from the third pAsuram of kannaiNuN siruthAmbu

"thiridhandhAgilum dhEvap pirAnudai kariyak kOlath thiruvuruk kAnban

nAn, periya vaN kurughUr nahar nambikku AL vuriyanAi, adiyEan peRRa

nanmaiyE"

 

In the earlier pAsuram madhura kavi AzhwAr spells out that he does not

have anybody except namAzhwAr as the Lord. Here he mentions that he

has seen the Lord and that is his benefit-nanmai? HOw can he term it

as his benefit when it is somebody other than AzhwAr is the question?

It is because of

a. Unlike the pre-satakopan era, he was not involved in materialistic

tastes and now comprehends the truth and hence does not reject it and

b. The Lord is desired and liked by madhurakavi's Lord -nam AzhwAr and

whatever is good for his AchAryan is also good for him.

Here swAmi azhagia maNavALap perumAL nAyanAr vyAkyAnam is excellent.

Gor those who go through AchArya the Lord's paradise -bhagavadh

vishayam- will come and surround and fall on them.Even when we

surrender through pirAtti since, she is alongwith Him, we have to

await His nod. Here, due to AchAryan's blessing the LOrd Himself

comes and falls on us.

 

The text of the vyAkyAnam is reproduced which highlights this aspect precisely

"AchArya vishayathai paRRi iruppAn oruvanai bhagavath vishayam thAnE

mEale vizhum ennum idathukku vudhAharaNam idhuviREa. pirAttiyai

paRRinAlum avaL avanOdE sErkaiyAlE avan kai pArthirukka vENum. ingu

avanthAnE vandhu thannai ivanukku kodukkum"

AchAryan-swAmi nam AzhwAr.Lateral entry for both
