Guest guest
SrI: Dear sri Vasudevan Swamin. thanks for your email. It is a Srivaishnava lakshaNam that one wears a maalai (garland) of thuLasi beads... This thuLasi bead and lotus bead maalias were meant and referred to by Sri NainAchArya. It is not garland of thuLasi leaves...which are meant only for Sriman Narayanan. Perhaps, I did not specify the same correctly and completely-[ as is usual with me...]. Aplogies for misleading. Human beings can consume it as prasadam or for medical reasons, or have it placed on the inside of the ear lobes so that it does not come in contact with the hair on the head. No other devatantarams are eligible to wear the thulasi garland either. Swami Desikar and his Thirukkumaarar were certainly aware of this no doubt. Under such circumstances, it is difficult to believe that Swami's Thirukkumaarar has composed a poem on his Thiruththagappanaar which states so many times that the latter wears a thulasi garland. I request learned scholars to throw light on this. Once again kshamaapanams if I have said something wrong. Shrimathey Nigamaantha Mahaa Deshikaaya Namaha. Guest guest
srI: Is it correct that Sri Vaishnavas should not wear tulasi malai even after the same is worn by the Lord. Periazhwar in his TirupallAndu "thodutha thuzhAi malar soodik kalaindhu, soodum ithondargalOm". Kindly clarify. namO nArAyanA G.Sundarrajan
