In this connection, Adiyen has another question.

Adiyen in his ignorance feels adiyen has seen acharyas in archa form in temples,

being worshipped with tulasi. Is this wrong? Are'nt our Acharyas considered

equivalent to sriman narayanan himself in our sampradayam ? Why then is it nor

permitted to adorn their divya mangala vigrahams with tulasi garland ? I humbly

request bagavathas to pls clarify.

Dasanu dasan.

PS : Dasan humbly agrees that devatantarams and humans are not eligible to wear

tulasi garland...

SrI:

Dear sri Vasudevan Swamin.

thanks for your email.

It is a Srivaishnava lakshaNam that one wears a maalai (garland) of thuLasi

beads... This thuLasi bead and lotus bead maalias were meant and referred to

by Sri NainAchArya.

It is not garland of thuLasi leaves...which are meant only for Sriman

Narayanan.

Perhaps, I did not specify the same correctly and completely-[ as is usual

with me...].

Aplogies for misleading.

Namo Narayana

Shrimathey Nigamaantha Mahaa Deshikaaya Namaha

Kindly pardon me for saying this but it is a known fact that the thulasi

garland is fit for wearing only by the Lord, Shriman Narayanan. Human beings

can consume it as prasadam or for medical reasons, or have it placed on the

inside of the ear lobes so that it does not come in contact with the hair on

the head. No other devatantarams are eligible to wear the thulasi garland

either. Swami Desikar and his Thirukkumaarar were certainly aware of this no

doubt. Under such circumstances, it is difficult to believe that Swami's

Thirukkumaarar has composed a poem on his Thiruththagappanaar which states

so many times that the latter wears a thulasi garland.

I request learned scholars to throw light on this.

Once again kshamaapanams if I have said something wrong.
