Tiruppavai - Pasuram 1 : nAmA 2

In the first pasuram, AndAL glorifies the following nAmAs : 1.

nandhagOpan kumaran, 2. yasOdhai iLam singam, 3. kAr mEnian, 4.

sengkannan, 5. kadhir madiy am pol mugathan, 6. nArAyanan

The second nAmA is "yasOdhai iLam singam". In this nAmA, AndAL

describes Lord's soundharyam. In our sampradAyam, there are 3

simhams. Narasimham, Raghava simham and Yadhava simham. Narasimham

incarnated due to the prayers of Prahladan. Narasimhan was so

ferocious that even thAyar became so nervous after Hiranyakasipu's

vadham. Swami Parasara Bhattar in his Guna Ratna Kosam (Sahasranama

Bashyam) describes the nAmA "Sriman" as beautiful and divine which

comes after the nAmA "NArasimhavabuhu". Raghava simham is always

surrounded by great saints and hence difficult to approach. But,

Yadukula simham as AndAl describes in future pasuram "Mari malai

muzhainjil .... " Kannan as "poovai poo vanna". Though, he is a

Yadhava simham, he can be handled as easily as "flower" and he is as

soft as flower.

Where she finds his beauty is "Eraarndha KaNNi". Yashodai's eye brows

are so straight and sharp, that every moment she sees his beauty, her

eye brows gets so sharp and straight. When she sees "vaiyyam Ezhum

kandaL pillai vayulE" and cow heards say "aayar puttiran allan, arum

deivamtiruvOnattan ulagalum enbargalE", she exclaims through her

eye brows, which itself attest Lord's beauty.

Most of us, would have attracted first to the Lord, due to his beauty.

Nevertheless, azhwars have done so.

Thondaradi podi azhwar claims "than pal adharam peruga vaitha azhaganur"

Kulasekara perumal cliams "karumaNiyai, kOmalathai kandu kondu en kaN

iNaigal endrugalO kaLikkum naLO"

Periazhwar has sung his Triumozhi only to praise the beauty of Lord

Tirrupanazhwar claims "en amudinai kaNda kaNgaL martondrinai kaNAvE"

In this pasuram the next nAmA is : kArmeniyan (HIS karuNyam) to bless us (to be continued)

namO nArAyanA

Apologise. Due to a reference mistake, I mentioned SahasranAma

Bashyam of Shri Parasara Battar as "Guna Ratna Kosam". Please

correct it "Bhagavat Guna Darpana" of Shri Parasara Bhattar.
