Guest guest
Sri: Srimathe Ramanujaya Nama: Once Bhattar was explaining a Thiruvaymozhi pasuram and made the following observation: "The Lord is easily worshipped. He will accept anything from His devotees. Even if they were to burn some dry twigs and offer Him the smoke, He will accept it. Even if they offered Him the kaNdakArika flower, He would wear it gladly". Nanjeeyar who was listening immediately asked Bhattar "Do not the sastras say that one should not offer the kaNdakArika flowers to the Lord (na kaNdakArikA pushpam devAya vinivedayet)?" Bhattar replied "It is true that the sastras say that the kaNdakArika flowers should not be offered to the Lord. But that's not because they are unacceptable to Him. The kaNdakArika flowers have thorns around them. If the devotees go to pluck these flowers, the thorns would prick their hands and hurt them. This is why the Lord has declared that they should not be offered to Him. Therefore, there is nothing that a devotee can offer to the Lord that is truly unacceptable to Him".
