Guest guest
FIELD EFFECT What is Field Effect? Crudely defining, the adaptation-involuntarily- of the nature of another material,by the area, in the vicinity is filed effect. Sometime back, there was a discussion regarding the observation of devotees while seeing the Lord. It was felt that their standards of observation were far from normal levels. However, this would have reached abysses of ignorance in such matters, had this field effect not been existent . For instance, though I may be entering Tirumala , my thoughts may go astray and I may not be able to concentrate my thoughts on Him. Nevertheless, no sooner I board the bus to Tirumala, than the crowd's ecstatic squeal "GovindA! GovindA!" will automatically marshal our thoughts from several directions into unified thinking of the Lord thiru vEnkatamudaiyAn. The arrival at the thirumalA and the swAmi pushkaraNE would have a sweeping effect on us and the fervor will inspire us into undivided attention towards the Lord. The entrance through the mahA dhWAram alongwith the fellow devotees will elevate us to levels of exhilaration making us spontaneously muttering the words "GovindA! GOvindhA" and fold our hands in awe reverence and devotion. These experiences, ere meeting the Lord in the sanctum sanctorum gear us up for the divine finale, climax into an unparallel divine phenomenon-matchless indeed. It may thus be observed that, even a person who undertakes an exclusive trip to Tirumala, finds it difficult to integrate his thought process trained towards Him and Him alone, voluntarily. The effect of the atmosphere in the grand dhivya dhEsam makes us involuntarily concentrate on Him. Can this not be termed as the field effect ? True, we being mortals are bound by emotions and hence, such contagion perforce occurs. In fact, these type of effects of shall we call it vibration, make us indeed proud. Is the Lord subject to such type of contagion effect?. He, who is the supreme entity and the ruler of the souls, all sentient and insentient beings, presumably is above all such elements. Is he also subject to such feelings/failings? swAmi nam-AzhwAr and AndAL tend to think otherwise. The following pAsurams goes to prove this point. nAchiAr thiru mozhi "kOvai maNAtti ! nE vun kozhungani koNdu emmai Avi tholaiviyEal vAzhagar thammai anjudhum, pAviyEan thOndRip pAmbaNai Arkkum pAmbu pOle nAvum iraNduLa vAithu nANiliyEanukkEA" 10-2 This is the third pAsuram of kAr kOdal pUkkAL thiru mozhi. Here,AndAL yearns for His arrival but he fails to show Himself. Frustration and despair follow and these pAsuram-s emerge. AndAL sees Him in the environment. In this particular pAsuram she sees similarity between the kOvai fruit and Lord's lips. Having recalled Him so, she feels that He has not come and failed in His promise to meet her. A person with one tongue will always keep His word. Here, the Lord is not keeping up to His word and He has two tongues. What! does He have two tongues? How is it? That is because of His permanent proximity with thiru ananthAzhwAn, who is His bed . Not only that he his His bed but also they where schoolmates during incarnations. Hence, He has imbibed thiru ananthAzhwAn's quality of double tongue. swAmi periavAchAn piLLai's vyAkyAnam will point out incisively this fact: pAmbaNai Arkkum"....naduvE paLLith thozhamai palithadhu; adhuvEa anRikkEa,vOdhiRRum oru kidaiyilEayiReA" Field Effect - AndAL's thiru vAkku. swAmi nam AzhwAr voices the same idea in the second pathu of thiru voizhmozhi in 'vAyum thirai vugaLUm padhigam" "naivaiya emmEA pOle nAn madhiyEA nE innAL, mai vAn iruL agaRRAi mAzhAndhu thEmbudhiyAl, ai vAi aravaNai mEAle Azhip perumAnAr, meivAsagam kEttun mei nErmai thORRAyE?"2-1-6 of thiru voi mozhi The beginning of second pathu describes not just AzhwAr's pangs of separation from the Lord, but AzhwAr also stats correlating some natural happenings that these are also due to His separation. In this pAsuram, Azwar observes the waning phase of the moon. AzhwArfeels that the moon is decreasing in size and shape due to His failure to keep up His word that He would appear. Due to Lord's non emergence, AzhwAr feels that the moon gets diluted. AzhwAr expresses " Oh! moon, You get depleted since you believed His words to be true. However, He has got this habit of not keeping up His word from His bed- ai vAi aravu - Five mouthed serpent - and since He has multi-tongue he can conveniently overtake His own words. Edu -..avanukku paLLith thOzhamai palithapadi.paLLi enbadhu padukkaiyum vOdhina idamum" The fact here is that AzhwAr states that the effect of the bed-five mouthed Adhi shEshan takes toll on Lord's credibility- and the field effect occurs. That is field effect from swAmi nam AzhwAr. should we not get the field effect of AndAL and AzhwAr? vanamamalai padmanabhan
