thiru voi mozhi nURRandhAdhi

"nORRa nOnbhAdhiyilEan vundhannai vittARRagillEAn,

pERRukkupAyam vundhan pERaruLEA sAthuginREAn,

ingen nilai ennum ezhil mAran sol vallAr,

angamararku ArA amudhu" 47

1.This thiru voi mozhip nURRandhAdhip pAsuram is representative of

the vAnamAmalaip padhigam "nORRa nOnbu ilEan" thiru voi mozhi 5-7.

Both start with the terms 'nOnbu"

2. In the thiru voi mozhip padhigam this is the first dhivya dhEsam

where AzhwAr surrenders unto the Lord folowed by thirukkudandhai.

AzhwAr expresses the fact that He does not possess the rewards of

penance nor the strenght of knowledge-nORRa nOnbu ilEan, nun aRivu

ilEan. The way of reaching the Lord is His divine feet. This is

expressed by AzhwAr in the tenth pAsuram - "ARu enakku, nin pAdhamEa

charaN Agath thandu vozhindhAi"- Your divine feet is the means of

reaching you, which you have given to me. The primary focus here is

on the Lord Himself being the means and the end.

In this thiru voi mozhi nURRandhAdhip pAsuram the second line - '

pERRukkupAyam vundhan pERaruLE' refers to the fact that His grace

is the means of attaining Him.

3. The thiru voi mozhi 5-7-11th pAsuram ends with the word " vudan

vaigal pAda vallAr vAnOrku ArA amudhu"

which is the final word of this pAsuram also and also the beginning of

the next pAsuram and thiru voi mozhi 5-8- "ArA amudhEa" padhigam.

4. ezhil mARan sol vallAr- is the reverence to AzhwAr's words.
