Guest guest
Dear SriVaishnavas, My question is very short and simple. What is the position of our acharyAs with respect to listening or studying the works of Vaishnavas not belonging to our Sampradayam?? I can be more specific: With regards to enjoying the music of Saint Thyagarajar (I head that eventually an advaitin) or Oothukkadu Venkata Subba Iyer?? As I know, ISKCON strictly forbids their followers from listening to acharyas who don't belong to the four "legal" Sampradayas, namely, Sri, Brahma, Kumara and Rudra Sampradayams. It would be great if the answers are based on pramanas and not personal realizations. Dasan, Kidambi Soundararajan. Guest guest
Dear SrI Ranganathan: You are raising an interesting question . SrImath Azhagiya Singar was asked the very same question recently in a Tele-upanyAsam. His answer was that for ParamaikAnthis and PrapannAs or ParamaikAnti-PrapannAs , there is no other God but SrIman NaarAyaNan . Listening to Krithis about SrIman NaarAyaNan or His Divine consorts is preferrable for ParamaikAnthis . SthOthrams of AchAryAs on BHagavAn set to Music, Dhivya Prabahndhams set to music , BhagavannAma Sankeertthanam are preferrable. On a personal note , Saint ThyagarAja and OotthukkAdu MahAn had saakshAthkAram of BhagavAn in their lives .They are not focusing on Dhaviatham or Adhvaitham in their Naadha NaivEdhyams . The importance of Naama Sankeerthanam in Kali Yugam as a route for SaranAgathy at the Lord's feet has been emphasized by our AchAryAs and Sages. In summary , enjoy the songs about RaamA and Krishna and SrIman NaarAyaNA's family but never forget your total and unconditional links to SrI Vaikunta Naathan for salvation even when you happen to listen to the Bhakthi outpourings of the great composers .Seek a VaishNavite SadAchAryan and perform SaraNAgathy and lead a Post-prapanna life described by Swamy Desikan in SrImath Rahasya Thraya Saaram. That is all there is to it. Mukundhan is the sole Moksha DhAyakan .
