AchArya Hrdhayam 127 - sUthram 220 Contd.

Second Ten Contd.

Continuing on the second ten of thiru-voi-mozhi it was noted that the

Lord who is the cause of all the worlds and souls, blessed AzhwAr

with knowledge who desired for mOksham and nithya sUri ghOshti.

AzhwAr became crestfallen on not getting this. The Lord poured His

affection on Him which flowed down to generations of AzhwAr's

sambhandhi-s. However, when the Lord tried to grant salvation, AzhwAr

rejected on the grounds that it should be for His sake and not for the

sake of AzhwAr and He always required His divine feet, thus

underlining the nature of both. Further, It was seen that those

qualities which go to establish the supremacy -parathvam-namely,

sagala pala prathathva, kAraNathva, shEsha sAyithva, sriyapathithva

and saulabhyAdhigaL were seen in the thiru-voi-mozhi-s "thiNNan" and

"aNaivadhu aravaNai". Further,

Text: "kaLvA, thErthan enRu vachana prathyakshangaLaik kAtti..."

Summary: Sri azhagia maNavALap perumAL nAyanAr points out one

"utterance" and one "vision" from shivA and arjunA which go to

establish His supremacy.

" ."kaLvA" is the word uttered by shivA towards Lord krishNA.

thiru voi mozhip pAsuram 2-2-10 describes this event:

"kaLvA! emmaiyum, Ezhulagum nin vullEa

thORRiya iRaiva! enRu veL ERan,

nAnmugan, indhiran, vAnavar, puLLUrdhi kazhal paNindhu

EthuvarE"

"You deceit! You are the person who has created me and the whole

world" with this word shiva worshipped Lord krishNA.

What is this episode?

shivA desired a boon from the Lord. He wanted the Lord to take a boon

from Him so that everybody will believe in his superiority.Lord

krishNa went and approached shivA and asked for a son for rukminip

pirAtti. Oh! Lord, YOu are the creator of us and the whole world and

if you ask for such a boon who will believe this. Deceit-kaLvA.

"thErthan" '

'thErthan ulagalandha sEvadi mEal pUndhAmam, sErthi avaiyE

sivan mudi meAl than kaNdu pArthan thelindhozhindha painthuzhAyAn perumai

pErthum oruvarAl pEsak kidandhadhE" thiru voi mozhi 2-8-6;

arjunA wanted to worship shivA for attaining pAsupadhAsthram. For this

purpose, Lord krishNA offered His divine feet on which arjuna

showered flowers which he later saw in the head of shivA. Then, he

realised the Lord's supremacy.

The words "thAn kaNdu' is of essence here. It is not hearsay for

arjunA. He himself had the vision-first hand experience. Should such

experience be subjected to further analysis?

Edu vyAkyAnam reads as follows: "Apthar sollak kEatkai anRikkEa,

sruthi smrithigaLAl anRikkEa, thAnE kaNdAn AyiRRu"

arjuna did not realise this fact by hearsay from friends or

comprehended the supremacy from sruthi or smrithi. He was a witness

to the vision for understanding the supremacy of the Lord.
