Dr.SrIman SatakOpa Tatacharyar Swamy has

written a wonderful article on the anushtAna KuLa Uthsavam ,

a grand annual celebration where Lord VaradarAja is united

with both AchArya RaamAnujA and Swamy Desikan at

ThUppul Swamy Desikan Sannidhi.

 

The digital images from this uthsavam has been posted

in the photos section of a sister list by SrIman Diwakaran .

 

I will send you all the beautiful pictures of Swamy Desikan

and Lord VartadarAjan in the attire of the hunter , who

rescued AchArya RaamAnuja from the Vindhya Mountains

for blessing our ancient SampradhAyam to grow under

AchArya RaamAnujA .

swamy desikan

daasasya viNNappam. Anushtanakula utsavam is one of the many utsavas

that take place in the Kanchi Varadaraja swami temple. This utsava is

conducted every year on the next day to Iyarpa satumarai which is

conducted next day to adhyayanotsava satumarai.

This utsavam is conducted in order to remind the famous story that

Lord Varadaraja safe guarded Ramanuja to Kanchi on the way from

Kasi, from the jaws of death which was planned by yadavaprakasa. Both

Varadaraja and Swami Bashyakara used to visit salai kinaru and then

there will be a thirumanjanam for Lord Varadaraja.

 

This year this utsavam fell on Bhogi day. I wish to exchange my

feelings with you. Usually on bhogi day Shri Aandal will go around

the four mada streets on golden palanquin. Then after spending some

time on swing, Aandal will visit thayar sannidhi for the feast. Then

through the alvar prakaram She will visit the Swamy Desikan sannidhi

situated near the dhwaja sthambam. There She will be welcomed by

Swami with silk vastram, etc. which is called as darsana thamboolam.

Then there Aandal Maryadai (Garland Honour) will be give to Swamy.

After that there will be thirumanjanam for Aandal in which again the

prasadam theertham and thulasi malai will be presented to Swami. Then

the Aandal will be adorned with ornaments, etc. as a bride, and there

will be goshty etc. after Maryadai to Swamy Desikan. She will be

waiting in side of the Desikan sannidhi till evening to have a

marriage with Lord Varadaraja. All these things took place this year

too, but in a little speed so that the Lord goes for anushtana kulam

utsavam.

 

Then the Lord Varadaraja proceeded for anushtana kulam utsavam with

Swami Ramanuja. While returning to temple both varadaraja and

Yathiraja used to visit Desikan sannidhi at tooppul. This year it was

scheduled to 3.00PM. But perumal visited half an hour late by 3.30PM.

Here Perumal will be welcomed by Swami with silk cloth, etc. which is

called darsana thamboolam. Then after arghyam patrhyam, etc. to

perumal in side of tooppul. There will be special naivedyams, such as

ladu, mysore pak, padusha, cake, kesari, ksheerannam, karasewal,

dosai, vada, iddli, panchamruthum, paanakam, etc. After naivedyam to

Ramanuja and Swami Desikan there will be parivattom, garland

maryadai, shrishatari, honour to Ramanuja and Swami Desikan. Then

there will be goshty viniyogam. Usually Perumal stay here for more

than one and a half hour but this year as kalyanotsavam is to be done

in the evening all took place in a speed. Somebody criticized maniakar

for the speed. The kalyanotsavam took place on scheduled time -

7.00PM.

 

But my feeling was this :as mentioned by sri desikan in

padukasahasram"santastu santamapi na prathayanthy dOsham"

During the marriages if the muhoortham is in the morning around 7.30AM

then jatakarma of the bride and vratum for the groom will take place

swiftly. Just like that in the morning Aandal thirumanjanam etc. took

place in speed. Vrata bakshanam for Shri Varadaraja at tooppul in

haste. As vadhyar used to say during vrata bakshana time that it is

time for muhoortha, so take it quickly, so as here the maniakar told

to make it quick. In some marriages there will be one or two, who are

relatives to both sides. Just like that Swamy Desikan here become

relative for both sides and He supervised Aandal’s programme then at

tooppul Perumal’s programme also. Thus this utsavam denotes that

Swami Desikan belongs to both the Aandal and Perumal. Of course it is

He who proclaimed that “Dampathi Daivatham Naha”.

 

Swamy says in rahasyathreyasaram

who is bhakta there is no timely moksha but there will be more

bhagavat anubhavam, who is prapanna there is no more bhagavat

anubhavam, but even I am prapanna I tried to get more bhagavat

anubhavam here itself by this way.
