Guest guest
Dear SrI Sridharan: There are some relaxations in EkAdasi Fasting rules based on age , health status , kaala , dEsa varthamAnams . For instance , those below age 8 and above 70 or 80 and ladies going thru pregnancy are excused from Fasting . SrI Sridharan: You are abroad studying towards a degree with intensity and with lot of demanding duties . Yours is a category of cases that need some modifications to the prescribed Fasting . Nirjala EkAdasi should be avoided under your circumstances at all costs . SrI Sridharan: You have been blessed to be a SrI Paadham ThAngi for Lord VaradarAjan . That blessing alone will carry you through during this year of overseas stay for educational purposes , where it is difficult for you to pursuing Ekadasi Vratham. Please do not worry about it . There are a lot of people here ( in USA ) , who drive quite a few miles daily to get to work and sit in intense meetings or operate Machines (including their cars) or have demanding project deadlines . They have to mitigate the intensity of fasting also along the lines allowed by ShAsthrAs and revert to stricter routines , when they can . If not , they will have problems in coping with the demands of the working day such as experiencing gididness and gastro-intenstinal problems , dry mouth , hypoglycemia ( inadequate supply of glucose to the brain) et al , which do not go well with their intense work schedules . Eating fruits and cooked vegetables , broken grain based preparations during the day and spreading it out , performing ThrikAla SandhyA Vandhanams and additional AshtAkshari/ Gayathri Japams are some of the ways to cope with the difficulties in strict observation of the EkAdasi Vratham. Oru Pothu , PalahAram route can be merged in to this schedule. You can always return to stricter observances , once your support systems are back in place .
