BuddhAvathAram is not to be included in the DasAvathAram.

 

BalarAmAvatharam however has a legitimate place among the ten

avathArams of SrIman NaarAyaNa.

 

Adhi Sankara , AchArya RaamAnuja , MadhvAchArya have

rejected Bhuddha matham ( Bhouddham) as an avadhika

matham that is untenable from their own perspectives .

 

Swamy Desikan in His Para Matha Bhangam and SarvArTa Siddhi

has provided the most logical refutation of the doctrines advocated

by Buddha. Hence the issue of Buddha being one of the 10

avathArams of SrIman NaarAyaNa does not arise.

 

Swamy Desikan's case against all the four kinds of Bhouddham

has been covered in the recently concluded postings on

Para Matha Bhangam (Desika Prabhandham series).

 

BalarAmAvathAram:

VishNu PurANam (amsa 5) , SrImad BhAgavatham ,

MahA BhAratham , Brahama , Agni , Koorma ,

VarAha and Brahma Vaivartha PurANams

salute the BalarAmaavathAram as one of

the DasAvathArams.

 

BalarAma is the 7th child of King VasudEva and DEvaki.

Their 8th Child was exchanged with the VishNu Maayaa

( the girl child ), the daughter of YasOdha in the middle of

the night . BalarAma was trasferred secretly shortly

before his birth from the womb of Devaki to that of

RohiNi in Gokulam to keep him away from destruction

by Kamsa .

 

Swamy Desikan has saluted BalarAmaavathAram

in the 9th slOkam of His DasAvathAra SthOthram.

He calls the joint leelais of BlarAman and KrishNan

as Sugar mixed with MIlk in BhOgyam (Ksheeram

SarkarayA iva). In this slOkam , Swamy Desikan

says that BalarAman ( the stronger Raaman) never

left his little brother KrishNa( apruTak bhUtha).

Of their joint leelais as children and grown ups

in KamsA's court , Swamy Desikan says:

" ThAlangasya vihrudhaya: bhadhrANi na: tanavanthu/

May BalarAmAs' leelAs bless us with all auspiciousness).

 

AzhwArs have also sung about BalarAma .Other members

on the list might wish to cover those Paasurams .

 

There is no question therefore about the authenticity

of BalarAma as one of the 10 avathArams of SrIman NaarAyaNa.

The best proof is at DasAvathAra Sannidhi constructed by

Thirumangai AzhwAr at SrIrangam .
