Guest guest
AchArya Hrdhyam sUthram 225-4 The Seventh Ten Contd. muRai ketta kEALvi "kangulum pagalum adaivaRRa Arthiyai kOyil thiru vAsalilEA muRai ketta kEALvi Akki..." In the earlier posting it was seen that AzhwAr had become very emotional and loudly called at the Lord for having still being detained in the world. The emotion culminated into extreme devotion, emotion and ecstasy and the pangs of separation transformed AzhwAr into a state of not comprehending the difference between day and night, a state of crying, sleeplessness, worshpping, mOhippadhu--> love becoming madness for the Lord, lamenting, stillness, mumbling and so on and so forth. These are but various explicit display of love and affection . "Asai, sindhai, ninaivu, mayakkam, pEAsudhal, azhudhal, mOham, vyAdhi, pithupidathirukkum thanami, sAdhal" are various facets of extreme love-kamathin nilaigaL. Since, AzhwAr was not in normal self, these several state of affairs was spelt out by thAyAr -=AzhwAr's mother. Where? At the SriRangam kOil. Told to whom? To the Lord Himslef. What did she say? What are YOu thinking of doing this girl? What have You done to this girl? What are You doing to this girl? What shall I do about my girl? Are the questions addressed to the Lord Himself. These questions addressed towards the Lord are termed as "improper". What is improper-muRai ketta kEALvi? The Lord has to come and rescue us. This is the nature of the soul. However, the soul's extreme yearnings for Him make this basic postulate to be relegated and the questioning of the Lord in this reagard is titled as "muRai ketta ". The soul is the Lord's asset. Hence, it is His look out to safeguard and rescue this. This being so, the asset itself calling for rescue is a paradox and hence termed as "muRai ketta". This is also deemed as an exact simile to the thiru virutham 62nd pAsuram -which is supposed to have blossomed into this 10 pAsuram-s."iRaiO irakkinum EngOr pEn pAl....muRaiyO, aravaNai mEAle paLLi koNda mugilvaNNanEA". Oh!Lord, it is Your wont to rescue people out of Your grace, You approaching them and saving them. Here, it is topsy turvy. Even after AzhwAr has surrendered You have not turned eyes on him and lO! see her state of affairs. Is it fair? Is it appropriate? You seemed to be enjoying Your rest on Your bed when AzhwAr is being tormented. Is it correct. muRaiyO? pAsuram-s: The emotional state of AzhwAr is described in the thiru voi mozhi 'kangulum pagalum'7-2. "kangulum pagalum kaN thuyil aRiyAL.."--7-2-1-->She does not know the difference between day and night nor she sleeps. "sindhikkum dhisaikkum"--7-2--->She thinks and stares. "ittakAl itta kaigaLAi irukkum"-7-2--> She remains still. "azhum,thozhum..." 7-2-->She cries, worships etc. All such acts of extreme love are elaborated in this thiru-voi-mozhi 'kangulum pagalum'. Mother of AzhwAr quetions the Lord " ivaL thiRathu en sindithAyE?" -What have You thought about her? "ivaL thiRathu en seidhittAyEa? What have You done to her? "ivaL thiRAthu en seiginRAyEa?What are YOu doing to her? muRai ketta kEALvi (to be continued) vanamamalai padmanabhan
