THE NINTH TEN

kUvudhal varudhal seiyyAi

 

 

"Aruyir ennap paduthina Athma dharsana palAnubhava parambaraiyai

kUvudhal varudhal enRu muduguvittu.."

 

 

What happened in the eighth ten? The Lord out of His grace and

affection voluntarily blessed AzhwAr with His presence and exchanged

Himself with AzhwAr which He does so with the nihya-sUrigaL. These

experiences were all exchanged in the thiru-voi-mozhi 'iruthum

viyandhu' in the earlier ten. AzhwAr then realised the nature of the

soul as explained by the Lord Almighty. The sequential and logical

fallout is to achieve and fulfill the nature being service to the

Lord. For this the Lord;'s blessing is necessary. His Graceful glance

is a must. His divine feet is the need.The service to "Him with His

consorts" is to be sought after.His affectionate words are the

requriement. Azhwar desires these and due to the extreme expectation

and deep attachment towards this, was not able to wait till this got

automatically. Hence, Azhwar requests the Lord "If I am not to go to

YOur divine place and serve You, let me be blessed with serving You

here in thiru-p-puLingudi".' Call me and give me the opportunity to

serve YOu' is AzhwAr's scream.

The experience with the Lord is elaborated in the thiru-voi-mozhi

"iruthum viyandhu" 8-7-1;

The Lord's exchange is akin to that with that of nithya-sUrigaL.

"Aruyir pattadhu, enadhuyir pattadhu" 9-6-9.

 

AzhwAr desired this experience culminating into service to the Lord

Almighty being the nature of the soul forthwith. This is all

reflected in the thiru-voi-mohzi "paNdai nALAlEa".

 

"thoNdarOrku aruLi, vun sOdhi vAi thirandhu, vun thAmariak kaNgaLAl

nOkkAi" ----> 9-2-1--"Oh! Lord, Bless Your disciples by spelling out

a few words and gracing us with Your divine eyes.

"pAdha pangayamEa thalaikku aNiyAi"--9-2-2---> Your divine lotus feet

is the adorning ornaments for our heads.

"vun thAmarai mangaiyum nEyum idam koL mUvulagum thozha irundharuLAi"

9-2-3--> Please grace us by YOur presence alongwith pirAtti in this

world.

"nin pal nilA mutham thavazh kadhir muRuval seidhu, nin thirukkaN

thAmarai thayanga ninRaruLAi" 9-2-5--> Bless YOur smile to us. Grace

us with your divine glance.

 

Instead of watiing for the time to ripe for reaching the Lord,AzhwAr

immediately desires to meet the Lord Almighty. Hence,AzhwAr wants The

Lord in this world, and call him to serve 'Him with His consort' in

this world.

 

'nila magaL pidikkum, melladiyai koduvinaiyEanum pidikka, nE oru nAL

kUvudhal varudhal seiyyAyEA' 9-2-10;
