Sri Lakshmi Hayavadana Lakshminarayanabhyam NamaH

Sri Brahmatantra Swatantra Parakala Guruparamparayai NamaH

History of Parakalamutt

The Presiding deity "Sri Lakshmi Hayagreeva"

(embodiment of knowledge) of Parakala Mutt is

a gift from Saraswati Devi to Sri Ramanujacharya

in recognition of his expounding Vishishtadvaita.

This deity has been passed on to Parakala Mutt,

one of the oldest known SriVaishnava institutions

dating back to 1338 CE (14th century), and has

been worshipped by many Acharyas (35 pontiffs)

including H.H. Sri Pillan Swami, Pundareekaksha

Swami, Vedanta Desika Swami, Brahmatantra Jeer

and so on for the last 700 odd years. These

Acharyas strove hard to propogate Hindu Philosophy

and Sanatana Dharma during their lifetime.

The 33rd Pontiff H.H. Sri Abhinava Ranganatha

Brahmatantra Swatantra Parakala SwamiJi was

instrumental in setting up the "Vedanta Desika

Vihara Sabha" - an institution dedicated for

propogation of Hindu Philosophy, felicitation

of Sanskrit scholars and so on.

H.H. Sri Abhinava Ranganatha Swami let the Parakala

Mutt for nearly half a century and was responsible

for giving it the prime status of an institution

that spread spirituality and Sanatana Dharma. The

then Maharaja of Mysore - His Royal Highness Sri

Krishna Raja Wodeyar-IV (popularly known as

Nalwadi Krishna Raja Wodeyar) and the first President

of India Dr. Rajendra Prasad, were some of his

august devotees.

H.H. Sri Abhinava Ranganatha Swami was also

instrumental in uplifting Parakala Mutt branches

at Tirupathi, Bangalore, Prayag, SriRangam, Badri

and other such places.

The present pontiff of the Parakala Mut (36th in

line of Acharyas) H.H. Sri Abhinava Vageesha Brahma

tantra Parakala Swami who ascended the Peetham in

1992, is a highly learned person, well versed in

Sanskrit and Tamil literature, and widely traveled.

H.H. Sri Abhinava Vageesha Parakala Swami continues

to spread the ideals of dharma, devotion, dedication

and determination - the four dimensions which uplift

human beings to greater heights.

H.H. Sri Abhinava Vageesha Parakala Swami is the

Raja Guru of the Scion of the Royal Family of Mysore

Sri Srikantadatta Narasimharaja Wodeyar.

The present pontiff has very high reverence to the

poorvacharyas of Parakala Mutt, especially to Sri

Abhinava Ranganatha Brahmatantra Parakala Swami who

led the Mutt to great fame during his tenure.

H.H. Sri Abhinava Vageesha Parakala Swami continues

the tradition of his predecessors, by rededicating

himself to the spiritual upliftment of devotees.

A grand Mutt temple is already established atop the

Tirumala Hills. Work has already commenced at

Chennai and Hyderabad branches, and is expected to

complete shortly.

H.H. Sri Abhinava Vageesha Parakala Swami aims to

take up the following projects:

- Revival of Vedanta Desika Vihara Sabha

- Veda pathashala with instruction in Agama Sastra

- Yoga pathashala to teach Astanga yoga

- Publication of religious and philosophical books

- Degree course curricular educational institution

- Boarding & lodging for economically weak students

- Vruddhashrama for aged and disabled people

- Modern and Traditional medicine hospital

The administrative committee of Sri Brahmatantra

Swatantra Parakala Mutt plans to celebrate

On 17th July 2004 - 120th Tirunakshatram of

His Holiness Sri Abhinava Ranganatha SwamiJi

and

On 18th April 2004 - 70th Tirunakshatram of

His Holiness Sri Abhinava Vageesha SwamiJi

and

To implement the various projects as envisioned

by H.H. Sri Abhinava Vageesha Swami.

All these involve large expenditure and dedicated

effort. It is earnestly requested of Philanthropic

persons to support and donate towards these causes.

It is proposed to bring out a souvenir to commemorate

the celebrations with articles from well known vidwans

on religion and philosophy.

Business entrepreneurs and others are humbly requested

to advertise in the souvenir (format and tariff plans

given separately), and extend their support toward the

many projects of the Mutt.

The committee once again, makes a fervent appeal to all

to whole heartedly support implementation of the Mutt's

projects, participate in the Tirunakshatram celebrations,

and receive the divine blessings of Sri Lakshmi Hayagriva

and H.H. Sri Abhinava Vagisha Parakala SwamiJi.

Sarve JanaaH Sukhino Bhavantu

Shubhamastu
