Guest guest
SrI: SrimathE Gopaladesika mahadesikaya namah: Dearest Srivaishnavas, AzhwAr continues and touches upon the Bow usage and His valour and enters into KrishNAnubhavam in this verse [and will enjoy subsequent ones on Cowherd Boy in grand way] minniRatthu yeyiRRarakkan veezha vem charamcthuranthu pinnavaRku aruLpurindha arasu aLittha peRRiyOy nanniRatthu Or insol Ezhai pinnaikELva! mannuseer ponniRattha vaNNAnaaya puNdareekan allaiyE? (33) Oh PundareekA! SarvashrEshtanE! Supreme Lord! The One who has the greatness of valour to send sharp powerful arrows and destroy Raakshasan (RaavaNan- who had lightning like shining teeth) and then coronated his younger brother VibheeshaNa with lankA raajyam and blessed him! Lord! The divine consort of Nappinnai PiraaTTi- who is of grand complexion, who is unparralelled and peerless; matching You in all aspects and all respects! Who sought You helplessly with no other refuge for Her (yEzhai); You are the Supreme Lord- Pundareekan possessed with most auspicious attributes (anantha kOti kalyANa guNAs eternally) and are of golden hued divinely beautiful form.. In last verse- AzhwAr enjoys Lord Rama’s destroying those who were linked to the raakshasa [RaavaNan] who had abducted PiraaTTi. In this verse, He takes on straight on the one who committed his apachAram to PiraaTTi i.e RaavaNan. That’s the reason all monkeys joined (and devas incarnated as monkeys) in the avathAram of Rama- who appeared for their sake and answering their prayers. His main mission is abhayapradhAnam. Whoever surrenders- He says, do not fear- abhayam. Why the teeth of Raavanan are referred to? Sri UttamUr Swamy writes: the younger brother VibheeshaNan and the maternal uncle (who had tasted Lord’ valour before) Maalyavaan kept advising ceaselessly every time against the abduction of SitA PiraaTTi and advised Ravana to return Her back to Rama as it is against saasthrAs to bring someone else’s wife with a wrong intention. Those advice were not palatable to Ravana and he expreeses his anger by grinding his teeth everytime. Hecen they get polished due to his frequent grinding. aruL purindhu and arasaLitthu- Two different words- He blessed Vibheeshanan with his merciful glances and looked at him with extreme love and affection on the devotee who had surrendered at His feet with an unflinching faith unconditionally. And then He blessed him with kingdom. [Read and enjoy Swamy Desikan’s AbhayapradhAna saaram elaborating this most beautifully and also Adaikkalappathhu- umadhadigaL adaiginREn enRu orukkal uraiitthavarai- … thamadhu anaiithum vazhangi.. When one surrenders at His Feet, He grants the prapannan everything including Himself- anakkE thannait thandha kaRpakam- says NammAzhwAr. When He blessed pinnavan (younger one), AzhwAr remembered the blessing of the Lord on Pinna(i)vaL. i.e. Nappinnai. Till VihbheeshaNan came- the battle was for getting SitA PiraaTTi; after VibheeshaNa saraNAgathi, the mission was to place VibheeshaNan on the throne of LankA. The third line on Nappinnai can also be addressed as SitA who later were born as Nappinnai as it is Vedhavathi who first appeared as SitA and later as Nappinnai. OR even Lakshmi is addressed as Pinnai. All adjectives of the third line apply to Lakshmi naturally. Pon niRattha vaNNan- golden colured Lord- how the dark hued cloud colured one is golden coloured as well! ThirukkaNdEn pon mEni kaNdEn- With SrI, as He is always with, He is seen as golden colour. Vedas also refer the Lord to HiraNmaya (Gold colour and Gold itself) meaning He is utmost and greatest personification of enjoyment for us;. HiraNya kESa: hiraNyasmasru: ; HiraNmaya: purushO dhrSyathE- are all sruthi vaakyams. Swamy Desikan in his thaathparya chandhrikA mentions that the most valuable gold naturally on its own has cloud colour base. PundareekanE! Red lotus is Pundareekam, His hands, palms, eyes, feet, navel, the red lips, the divine charming face are all lotuses. He is the lotus forest. The Paramapadham itself is called Pundareekam – Pundareekam ParamdhAma:- says VishnusahasranAmam. Hence when AzhwAr addresses Him as PundareekanE! He is greatest and most beautiful like Pundareekam and hence He is addressed so- as He is SarvOtthaman; nirmalan (Blemishless); Supran; ShrEshtan. Hence We need to infer this word as SarvOtthamanE!
