These twelve Prabhandhams between themselves

house 167 Paasurams .

Today we will start with SrI VaishNava Dinasari dealing with

the daily anushtAnams of SrI VaishNavAs. SaasthrAs state

that a Sri VaishNavan's day has to be split in to five time units

and each of these time units should focus on one of the assigned

anushtAnams.These five prescribed anushtAnams are:

1. Abhigamanam: Prayer and Prapatthi anushtAnam ,

where the Lord is beseeched to bless the Saadhakan with

uninterrupted kaimkaryams to Him throughout the day .This

is very important anushtAnam for a SanyAsi .

2. UPAADHAANAM : There are two aspects to UpAdhAnam:

(a) Assembly of saamagriyaas (material) for Bhagavadh

AarAdhanam (b) cleansification of mind through kaalkshEpam of

the Sri Sookthis of AzhwArs and AchAryAs, since a clean mind

is essential for performing AarAdhanam for Sriman NaarAyaNa.

3. IJYAI :Performance of the ThiruvArAdhanam for Sriman

NaarAyaNa according to the procedures laid out by

PaacncharAthra aagamam and ahnika granthams.

4. SVAADHYAAYAM : Familiarization of VedAntha BhAgams

through study and reflection .

5. YOGAM : DhyAnam of Sriman NaarAyaNa's sacred feet

and observance of sleep with the meditation that one's head

is resting on the sacred feet of Sriman NaarAyaNa.

In this Prabhandham , Swamy Desikan makes

the PanchakAla kriyAs as vishayams about

Lord VaradarAjan . He uses two Paasurams

for each of the five divisions to describe

the activites during the day of a SrI VaishNavan .

The whole Prabhnadham has been set in

the simpler Kali Viruttham(metre) . Perhaps ,

Swamy Desikan chose this viruttam(metre) for

chasing away the Kali dhOsham through the five

kinds of prescribed anushtAnams for the day of

a Sri VaishNavan.
